The Tulane Green Wave have arguably one of the best uniforms in all of college football, and now, the team is taking it to a whole new level.
Tulane debuted its city edition uniforms on Tuesday morning, which pay tribute to the city of New Orleans. Up until this point, there's been some concern that look would not be up to the Green Wave standard, with EA Sports College Football 26 leaking the uniform weeks ago. Let's just say, it looked much different in video game format than it does in real life.
The jerseys are Tulane's go-to alternate baby blue color, with dark green striping along the shoulders that showcase the intricate designs of the wrought-iron fences that surround homes in Uptown. The players names on the back of each jersey will be street tiles, and a message inside the collar will read "Welcome to Uptown."
More green wrought-iron fence designs form stripes down the sides of the pants, which are a crisp white.
The helmet itself is a work of art with plenty of symbolism. The light grey background represents the sidewalks of the walkable, well-traveled city -- cracks are included, of course. Mardi Gras beads are scattered on the helmet as well, paying tribute to the holiday that New Orleans is best known for. Additionally, Tulane is spelled out in more street tiles on either side of the helmet, with wrought-iron striping down the middle to separate the sides.
The front bumper honors the Uptown neighborhood that the school is located in, and the back bumper spells out "Roll Wave" in street tiles. Of course, the American Conference logo is included on the back of the helmet, but so is the logo of the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans. Except... the logo is made up of a warning about concussions and helmet safety while playing football. How insanely creative is that?
What more could you include to represent New Orleans -- beignets, gumbo, carriages and the Mississippi River, maybe? All in all, the design encompasses everything that Tulane and its home city are, and blends it all together for a seamless design.
Fans have a chance to purchase these game-worn jerseys and helmets, with all proceeds going to the Green Wave Talent Fund. The uniform combo will only be worn once, so quantities will be extremely limited.
Fans will have to wait a few more weeks to see the Green Wave take the field in this uniform, as the team plans to wear them for its homecoming game against the Florida Atlantic University Owls on November 15th.
