The Green Wave acquired seven total medals at the event.
The Tulane Green Wave wrapped up a successful appearance at the 2026 American Outdoor Track and Field Championships by bringing home three more medals on Saturday. This brings the total number of medals earned over the course of the event to seven.
Silas Kiptanui, Blezzin Kimutai and Cara Salsberry each earned some hardware to wrap up the three-day event, with both the men's and women's teams finishing in ninth place overall.
Salsberry earned her second medal of the weekend with an elite discus performance, becoming the first Tulane student-athlete to medal in the field event since the team joined the American Conference. She took home bronze with an overall throw of 51.75 meters: the second-best all-time mark in program history.
Kimutai started the meet off on the right foot with a second-place win in the 10,000 meter race on Thursday, and she'd keep that success going. The sophomore distance runner from Kenya showed out in Saturday's 5,000-meter race, claiming the silver medal with a time of 16:42.84.
Kiptanui served as the third student-athlete to take the podium for the Green Wave with a championship performance in the men's 5,000-meter race. His time of 14:04.35 was enough to give him his second gold medal of the meet: his first came in Friday's 3,000-meter steeplechase race.
A handful of other athletes competed successfully for Tulane to ultimately put points on the board. Rogerio Amaral added a point for the men's team in the 5,000-meter race, while Dana Rojas Vazquez's eighth-place finish in the women's event was enough for one point.
Japser Newton picked up three points for the women's team with a sixth-place finish in the 1,500-meter race. She scored three more points after finishing in sixth place in the women's 800-meter race. On the men's side of the 1,500-meter event, Amaral finished eighth to add another point to his team's board. Other student-athletes represented the Green Wave across four relay races and other solo race events, though none placed high enough to earn points.
Up next, these Tulane standouts will have the opportunity to compete for more medals at the first round of the NCAA Track and Field Championships. As part of the east regional, the Green Wave will compete in Lexington, Kentucky, from May 27th to May 30th.
Any student-athletes who qualify at that meet will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon. That meet is set to take place from June 10th to June 13th.
