The redshirt senior rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's win over Southern Miss.
After a dominant performance in the Tulane Green Wave's 24-21 win over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, running back Maurice Turner picked up a massive weekly honor from the American Conference.
Turner was recognized as the league's Offensive Player of the Week, according to a release issued on Monday. It marks the first time that the redshirt senior has received a weekly honor, and he's the first player to earn Offensive Player of the Week recognition since former quarterback Jake Retzlaff picked up the honor in November 2025.
The native of Nicholls, Georgia, had a career night on the ground. Turner rushed for a game-high 200 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, averaging roughly 16.7 yards per rushing attempt. His 74-yard rushing score in the final minutes of the fourth quarter ultimately put the team on top.
That big touchdown was one of the longest rushing plays for a Green Wave student-athlete over the past four years, and Turner became just the second player to eclipse the 200-yard mark at Yulman Stadium. He also notched three rushes for that went for upwards of 40 yards apiece, making him the first player to do so in more than 20 years.
Turner's good start to the season has been nothing short of inspiring, especially after he suffered a debilitating injury in 2025 that ultimately ended his season. Though he was a bit more limited in his first few games -- especially as the team heavily rotated between its plethora of running backs -- he's picked up the pace in the past two weekends. What's more, he's made contributions through the air, even hauling in a receiving touchdown in a Week Three loss to the Kansas State Wildcats. It's hard to ask for much more out of a veteran running back.
This marks the second time this year that a Green Wave standout has received an American Conference honor. Fellow running back Jaylin Lucas was named to the league's Weekly Honor Roll in Week Two after putting together a 214-yard performance in a win over the South Alabama Jaguars.
Tulane will look to reap the benefits of a bye week as it works to find a way to be efficient and consistently competitive on the gridiron. Though the program has struggled heavily through non-conference games, league play might be exactly what the Green Wave needs to get back to its winning ways. The team will return to action as it hits the road to open American Conference play against the Army Black Knights. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, October 10th.
