The Tulane Green Wave track and field team is hoping for a consecutive strong outdoor showing in the Raleigh Relays at NC State.
While the Tulane Green Wave football and basketball teams aren’t in season, the baseball team is alongside multiple other Olympic sports in full swing. That includes the Green Wave’s track and field team, who are headed to North Carolina for the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State. It’s a three-day event which will run from Thursday, March 26 to Saturday, March 28 at the Paul Derr Track Facility. They’ll send a full contingent from the men’s and women’s teams for the competition that began at 8:30 am this morning. Senior Aiden Yang placed 21st in the javelin with a 53.98m best.
They also had several competitors in the men’s 1,500m, with junior Gilbert Rono leading the group placing 70th overall out of 224 runners with a time of 3:47.67. Freshman Daniel Reza placed 183rd with a time of 3:53.90, and junior Paul Pam came in 195th with a 3:55.19 time. Senior Rogerio Amaral did not start the race.

It’s their second competition of the outdoor season after competing in the Louisiana Classics in Lafeyette last weekend. Junior Cara Salsberry came in third in discus with a 46.76m that was good for fourth all-time in program history and then won the hammer throw with a 57.97m hurl that was the second-best throw in school history. Salsberry will compete in women’s discus on Friday at 10:00 am along with sophomore Quin Tandeih, and in the women’s hammer on Saturday at 1:30 pm.
The weekend was also highlighted by Nahema Dumonteil Cabanas who won the 400m hurdles with a 1:00.81 time that ranks ninth in Green Wave history. Across the meet, there were 17 total top-10 finishes for the Wave that Salsberry and Dumonteil Cabanas helped contribute to. This season, Tulane has three athletes with top-50 marks in the nation. Lee Harris ranks 36th in men’s 100m, Dumonteil Cabanas is 41st in 400m hurdles, and Salsberry’s hammer mark is 33rd in the nation.
After the trip in Raleigh, their next competition will be the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State.
