The Green Wave currently sits atop league standings.
After an impressive start to the season, the Tulane Green Wave volleyball program has maintained momentum through the first few matches of American Conference play.
The Green Wave is 10-2 on the year with a 2-0 mark in league action, and the team has won six matches in a row. The program has outpaced teams at an impressive clip, and even the pair of losses have been competitive matchups. As it stands now, the program has the best record in the league.
Tulane opened up American play on the road with a 3-2 win over the UTSA Roadrunners -- a team that was previously atop league standings -- on September 25th. The two teams went back and forth through the first four set, with the visiting squad claiming a decisive fifth set by a score of 15-5. Avery Burks led all Green Wave standouts with 18 kills, while Chloe List was right behind her with 14. Maddy McLin added 12 kills, and Riley Tucker and Lauryn Mack had 10 apiece. Defensively, three players finished with double-digit digs, and Makena Lim led the way with 19.
The team stayed in the Lone Star State for a match against the North Texas Mean Green. After a close, tough-fought contest, Tulane picked up a momentum-building sweep of the conference foe, winning the three sets by scores of 25-22, 26-24 and 27-25, respectively. Burks and Mack totaled 11 kills apiece on a combined 44 total attempts, with Lim adding eight digs and three service aces.
Following the impressive stretch of matches, a pair of Green Wave student-athletes received some well-deserved recognition. Burks was named the American Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The senior outside hitter totaled 33.5 points, 29 kills, four service aces, one assist and one block in eight sets played across the two matches. Her 18 kills against UTSA were a season-high.
Additionally, middle blocker Tucker earned weekly honorable mention recognition. The graduate student finished with 22 points, 15 kills and 14 blocks in the team's pair of league wins.
Tulane will stay on the road as it looks to remain undefeated in the American Conference. The program will travel up the Mississippi River to face the Memphis Tigers on Friday, October 2nd, at 6:30 p.m. CT. The team finally returns to Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse to face the Wichita State Shockers on October 4th at 1 p.m. CT.
