The Green Wave women's cross country are looking at their final slate ahead of the outdoor championships.
The Tulane Green Wave had a really strong 2026 season in cross country that they’re looking to build upon this upcoming season under head coach Adrian Myers.
The biggest accomplishment was by track standout Silas Kiptanui, whose campaign led him to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. He won his first heat and barely lost to Louisville Cardinals star Geoffrey Kirwa by less than one second in the final event.
His runner-up finish made him the first-ever track and field athlete in program history to earn silver in any event in the NCAA Championships.
His time of 8:18.20 nearly bested his 8:18.09 school record that he set in the first round of the competition.
Now, the attention turns to the women’s side as they compete in the Nicholls XC Invitational and focus on the cross country portion of the campaign.
A contingent of four runners for the Wave’s women's cross country team will compete on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. at Nicholls Farm.
The women will compete in the women’s 5k race.
Eliza Brand, Sophia Galiano-Sanchez, Morgan Matthews, and Jasper Newton will represent the Wave as a solid quartet.
Most recently, the team opened in the Battle for New Orleans. Galiano-Sanchez, Matthews, and Newton all finished within the top 25 in the meet as they look to build upon that start at Nicholls.
Newton finished with the best mark at 18th while Galiano-Sanchez trailed right behind in 19th, an impressive start to her collegiate debut. Matthews rounded out the group with a 25th place finish.
For Galiano-Sanchez, this will be the second weekend in a row in which she’ll compete. She took part in the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational last Friday.
After this upcoming invitational, Tulane will enjoy a break, as they’re off next week ahead of their next competition on Friday, October 16, which will be a split day.
Aka, one part of the team will head north to Terre Haute, Indiana, for the Pre-Nationals, while another contingent will head west to College Station, Texas for the Arturo Barrios Invitational.
The Pre-Nationals is hosted by Indiana State, while the Texas A&M Aggies are the hosts of the Arturo Barrios Invitational.
That will cap off the regular season meets for the Wave. That weekend will be their final ahead of the American Cross Country Championships.
The Green Wave will host that Championship on Saturday, October 31, at Lake Oaks Park.
