The Green Wave will look to keep its win streak going as it faces the Roadrunners.
The Tulane Green Wave will look to carry the momentum of a big win over the Memphis Tigers into this weekend's matchup against the UTSA Roadrunners, but that might be easier said than done.
The Roadrunners currently sit atop the American Conference with a 6-1 overall record and a 3-0 mark in league play. Though the team has had narrow margins of victory in all of its conference matchups so far, it has still found ways to win... and plays good defense while doing so.
Meanwhile, Tulane's offense had one of its best showings against the Tigers behind quarterback Trace Johnson's first career start. Can the program maintain that type of success heading into another massive home game?
Here's a look at which offensive players should be expected to make the biggest impact for the Olive Green and Sky Blue.
QB Trace Johnson
It's a no-brainer that all eyes will be on Johnson this weekend.
The true freshman did what few believed was possible: lead his program to a rivalry win against one of the best programs not just in the conference, but in the entire Group of Six. Though he didn't put up monster numbers -- going 11-for-21 for 165 yards, one touchdown and one interception -- he made crucial plays when necessary.
There's no doubt that Johnson has gained a bit of confidence from that showing, and he'll be itching to prove that he's the undisputed future of the program. Expect him to take another step forward against UTSA.
RB Johnnie Daniels
Daniels was a little bit quieter against Memphis... until he scored a big 48-yard rushing touchdown to put the game on ice late in the fourth quarter.
The transfer running back hasn't always had the flashiest games, but he's been arguably the most consistent offensive weapon for the Green Wave. So far this year, Daniels is up to 290 rushing yards and three touchdowns, and he's picked up his pace a bit over the past few weeks.
Why should he do anything but continue to improve and make a steady impact at this point? Though Tulane has a plethora of running backs, Daniels should continue to see a decent amount of action.
WR Anthony Brown-Stephens
Brown-Stephens has been hot and cold through the first half of the season, but he made a bit of noise against the Tigers.
Though he wasn't the team's leading receiver, he totaled 41 yards and three catches on four targets. Brown-Stephens' biggest problems so far this year have been drops and unclear communication with his quarterback, but you've got to hope that he's settled in by now as a veteran on the team. He looked better when paired with Johnson, so maybe that duo can continue to make an impact.
At some point or another, Brown-Stephens has to have a breakout game... why not this weekend?
