Fall camp begins this week for the Green Wave, and we will finally get a better look at what to expect in Uptown this year.
At long last, the 2026 college football season is finally upon us.
The Tulane Green Wave will start fall camp this week, one month ahead of kickoff. It officially signals the start of another athletic year and the end of a painfully long offseason, and it will provide some insight into what's expected to be an exciting year in Uptown.
Waking up on the first day of an official new year of gridiron action is similar to waking up on Christmas morning as a kid. There's an undeniable feeling of joy and an eagerness to see what's waiting to be unwrapped under the tree.
Similarly, Tulane fans are making a list and checking it twice heading into the season, even if they don't realize it. Here's a look at what every Green Wave fan should be putting on their wish list ahead of training camp.
1. A healthy preseason
First and foremost, Tulane must make it through fall camp healthy.
No tweaked ankles that force a player to sit out until the fourth game. No blown ACLs or snapped collarbones. The team has a lot to prove in Will Hall's first season, and it'll be harder to get going against a tough early slate if any key players are missing.
2. Some quarterback clarity
Right now, it seems most likely that the quarterback battle will come down to Kadin Semonza or Zeon Chriss-Gremillion. Will the strong passer fill out the offense, or will the program opt for a more run-heavy approach?
There's nothing worse than heading into Week One without any clear direction; more often than not, it's a sign that neither QB is living up to the hype. Not only does that cause some uncertainty in the fanbase, but it forces both position players to split first-team reps. Either Semonza or Chriss-Gremillion must put himself as the uncontested leader sooner rather than later.
3. Wideouts that quickly exceed expectations
There hasn't been a ton of noise surrounding Tulane's wide receiver room, especially with limited production returning.
The unit should be solid, but right now, it's not likely that it will be among the best in the American Conference. However, there's no doubt that the group is hungry and ready to prove any doubters wrong. What's the best way to do that? By coming out to training camp and turning heads.
4. A consistent defense
At times during the 2025 campaign, the Olive Green and Sky Blue really struggled on defense. When the team was winning in the trenches, it would be dominated through the air. When cornerbacks were locking down men downfield, there were far too many holes on the line.
That side of the ball has some true talent, but it must be more consistent than it was last year. It's hard to fault a team that won the league championship and reached its first-ever College Football Playoff, but there are obvious issues that need to be fixed this year. Training camp is the perfect time to work out any issues.
