Forward Scotty Middleton, who started 19 games for the Green Wave, entered the portal on April 7th.
The Tulane Green Wave basketball program has seen another player enter the transfer portal, just days after it opened.
According to 247Sports, small forward Scotty Middleton put his name in the portal on April 7th after an up-and-down season with Tulane. The news comes just days after Green Wave standout Rowan Brumbaugh announced his intentions to move on from the program. The team's leading scorer is expected to garner plenty of interest from some big-name brands in the portal.
Middleton appeared in all 33 games for the Olive Green and Sky Blue with 19 starts on the year. He averaged 6.9 points per game, shooting 39.8-percent from the floor and 36.9-percent from three. Additionally, he pulled down roughly 4.0 rebounds per game and finished the year with 40 assists, 26 blocks and 17 steals.
The junior had a double-double against the Tougaloo Bulldogs on December 10th, finishing the game with 14 points and a season-high 12 rebounds. After struggling some on the hardwood to open up American Conference play, Middleton was moved to a reserve role, coming off the bench in key matchups.
Believe it or not, he seemed to thrive when given the opportunity to come in at crucial moments: of the 10 times he scored in double figures on the year, five of those occurred when he came off the bench. Middleton went through a solid stretch of scoring from mid-February to early March, scoring in double figures in five of his six appearances against some of the league's top teams. Even when coming off the bench, he played more than 20 minutes per contest in eight of his last nine games.
This marks the second transfer of Middleton's career: he joined Tulane from the Seton Hall Pirates ahead of the 2025-2026 season. He was an ESPN top-35 high school recruit in the Class of 2023.
At this point, Ron Hunter and the Green Wave certainly have some work to do. Between losing players in the portal and seeing a handful of difference-makers graduate, there are going to be some big shoes to fill in Uptown next year. On top of this, Hunter's job has seemingly been in jeopardy for some time following years of lackluster results, and it's likely that the upcoming year could be make-or-break for the veteran leader.
The transfer portal is expected to heat up more in the coming weeks, and given just how many student-athletes Tulane brought in this time last year, it's easy to imagine that the team is probably going to follow the same approach to drawing in players this time around.
