After a season-ending rib fracture sidelined the former Knights defender, the 6-foot-5 edge rusher fights for a medical hardship waiver to revive his collegiate career elsewhere.
Former UCF Knights EDGE Josh Dorsainvil is seeking an additional year of eligibility via the NCAA medical hardship waiver after suffering a fractured rib that caused him to miss the rest of the season.
Dorsainvil played in UCF's Week 2 matchup against the North Carolina A&T Aggies and recorded one tackle. He did not appear in another game for the Knights last season.
The 6-foot-5 EDGE spent two seasons with the Knights, only appearing in two total games. Dorsainvil primarily worked with the scout team in 2024 after transferring from Savannah State.
He backed up Nyjalik Kelly and Malachi Lawrence, who manned the starting EDGE positions.
Dorsainvil was a redshirt senior, meaning his eligibility would expire without the medical hardship waiver.
The waiver has strict restrictions that an athlete must meet to receive an extra year of eligibility: athletes must not have competed in more than 30% of the program's games, the season-ending injury must have occurred before the midway point of the season, and medical documentation must prove the injury prevented the athlete from returning in the season.
There could be hope for Dorsainvil, as he did not play more than 30% of UCF's games, but his medical documentation must establish that he could not return to action.
"During the 2025 season, I suffered a rib fracture that prevented me from finishing the year and returning to play," Dorsainvil posted on X. "With updated medical documentation, I am seeking the opportunity to continue my college football career and earn the season I lost to injury."
Dorsainvil's teammate, Cam Fancher, earned a medical hardship waiver for a similar injury. Coach Scott Frost told the media in October that Fancher played through broken ribs in the Cincinnati matchup.
Fancher was UCF's most efficient offense during that game. He rushed for a season-high 108 yards with one touchdown and threw for 222 yards.
The Knights' initial starting quarterback had an injury-plagued season and did not play after the Cincinnati game. Fancher applied for a medical hardship waiver, received it and then transferred to Michigan State for his final collegiate season.
Dorsainvil is aiming for the same fate as his teammate. He wants an additional year of eligibility and will transfer to another program in hopes of showcasing his talents.
The Savannah State transfer recorded 21 tackles (eight solo), one tackle for loss and one sack during his time with the Tigers.
