After back-to-back undefeated seasons in Missouri, record-shattering freshman Rocco Marriott brings his championship pedigree to Orlando, prioritizing elite decision-making and deep-rooted chemistry to elevate the Knights' offense.

Rocco Marriott has high expectations for his tenure with the UCF Knights, striving to win championships just as much as he did in high school.

Marriott ended his high school career as a Platte County Pirate with back-to-back state championships in December. The former four-star quarterback also helped his team finish with back-to-back undefeated seasons.

He etched his name in Missouri high school football record books, throwing for nearly 9,000 yards and 118 touchdowns throughout his career.

UCF's highest-ranked quarterback commit early enrolled a month after winning the state championship. Like his fellow freshman quarterback, Dante Carr, Marriott is getting ahead of the curve by practicing in the spring rather than the summer.

Marriott said the most improved part of his game is his decision-making because the speed of college football is different from high school.

"Everything moves faster at this level," Marriott said on Saturday. "So, you don't got time to sit in the pocket and, you know, run around and make plays. Like, you got to be really firm in your technique."

Marriott is a dual-threat quarterback capable of extending plays with his legs. However, at the college level, with defenses that can collapse the pocket quickly, fast decision-making is a key skill for young quarterbacks.

A helping factor in quick decision-making is having strong chemistry with teammates, and for Marriott, he has that with another freshman tight end.

Brooks Hall was Marriott's teammate in high school, originally committing to South Dakota, and flipped to UCF. The duo's friendship dates back to when they were toddlers, and now they're roommates in Orlando.

"He was like my best friend growing up," Marriott said. "We met when we were like 1 year old, so that's been pretty cool. As soon as we got here, we're roommates too. Me, Dante, and Kaj. So it's cool, you know, we check up on each other, make sure we're doing all good."

Marriott also flipped to UCF, like his high school teammate. He originally committed to James Madison, where he would back up Barnett III, but his relationship with Frost and McKenzie Milton, the quarterback coach, helped change his decision.

"I talked to coach Frost, and then they offered later on in the year, after you know, the first few games of senior year," Marriott said. "And as soon as they offered it, it was kind of a no-brainer."

An interesting turn of events, as Marriott will still back up Barnett III, but in Orlando. Flipping to UCF made him the highest-ranked quarterback commit in the program's history, and he made his decision in one day.

Marriott decommitted from JMU on Nov. 22, visited UCF the same day and committed.

Now donning the Knights' black and gold, Marriott only has one goal he wants to accomplish during his time at UCF: winning championships.

"Winning championships is the main goal," Marriott said. "Football's a team sport. You know, personal accolades are going to come along with that, but I'm a team-first guy."
