UCF EDGE Nyjalik Kelly embraces the Senior Bowl, a premier proving ground for NFL aspirations, ready to impress scouts with his standout skills.
Nyjalik Kelly is taking one step forward in chasing his NFL dreams after accepting his invitation to the Panini Senior Bowl Saturday afternoon.
The Senior Bowl is the premier college all-star game hosted in Mobile, Ala. It is known as the first official step in the NFL Draft process, according to its website.
Kelly becomes the 16th UCF player to play in the Senior Bowl. Some alums who played in the all-star game are Denver Broncos running back RJ Harvey, Carolina Panthers wide receiver Kobe Hudson and retired linebacker Shaquem Griffin.
The EDGE's appearance almost guarantees he becomes an NFL player. 50% of participants are selected in the first three rounds of the draft, and 99% of the 2025 class were drafted or selected as an undrafted free agent.
Kelly had a stellar senior season with the Knights. He accumulated 46 tackles (33 solo), 7.5 tackles for a loss, three sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, four passes defended and an interception.
The Fort Lauderdale native caught his first career interception in his team's 34-9 victory over North Carolina.
"The play was called [for] Horus Lockett," Kelly said. Great with the pressure, slapped it, and it just landed in my hand. So, I knew I had to catch it for a big play to get the offense back on the field to possibly get points."
He also had a dominant performance against West Virginia in UCF's 45-13 victory to top off homecoming week. Kelly had eight tackles (five solo), 1.5 tackles for a loss, a forced fumble, a pass breakup and a sack.
His presence on the defensive line has earned him the captain title multiple times from coach Scott Frost.
"I'm blessed with the abilities that God gave me to be able to be looked up to by younger people or people that's my age or even older to look up to me to want to do like to watch what I do," Kelly said. "So now that I have to lead or now that I'm considered a leader, I have to watch what I do. So, it's a blessing. Like I love being a leader. It helped me keep me on my toes."
Now, Kelly has the opportunity to showcase his talents in the most popular all-star game, with NFL coaches and scouts watching his every snap and evaluating his talent and draft selection range.
The Panini Senior Bowl takes place next Saturday at the Hancock Stadium — home of the South Alabama Jaguars — at 1:30 p.m. on NFL Network.
