The UCF Knights struggled in conference play last season, but a new and improved roster heading into next season aims to turn the tables, backed by recently released Big 12 win totals.
College Football Zone posted the 2026 Big 12 win totals on X, and UCF appeared on the list with 5.5 wins. The ".5" represents betting the over or under win total for fans. Regardless, 5.5 is a significant increase from last season's win total.
The Knights finished the year with a 2-7 Big 12 record — its only wins coming against West Virginia (45-13) and Oklahoma State on Senior Knight (17-13). Their poor outing in conference play prevented the team from earning a bowl game bid.
Coach Scott Frost highlighted what his team needed to improve on in their season-ending loss to then-No. 11 Brigham Young.
"They got a stop or two when they [BYU] needed it," Frost said. "We need to start doing those things, and we had our chances to, you know, we could have had an interception and didn't. We could have cut the ball in the end zone, and we didn't. We need to start making those plays, and that's just going to be a product of continuing to bring the right guys into the program, developing the guys in the program."
Frost's UCF squad fought hard in most of their Big 12 games, but crucial mistakes became too much for them to overcome. As a result, Frost and general manager Trent Mossbrucker searched for experienced players in the transfer portal.
"We want to get older," Frost said. "We want to get more experience. We wanted more proven production. I think with high characters that have played football, I think you're inevitably going to get some tougher guys."
James Madison quarterback transfer Alonza Barnett III and Harvard defensive back transfer Ty Bartrum are key examples of the Knights adding talent with proven production on their resume.
Barnett III led his previous team to their first College Football Playoff appearance, and Bartrum helped Harvard earn an at-large bid to the NCAA FCS playoffs in the Ivy League's first season of eligibility.
The experience those two — and other transfers — bring to Orlando and the Acrisure Bounce House aim to improve UCF's win total in the Big 12 and book its ticket to a bowl game for the first time since 2023.
The Knights kick off conference play on Sep. 26 at home against the Texas Christian Horned Frogs.
