After leading the nation in forced incompletions, the lockdown Syracuse transfer aims to anchor the Knights' secondary and solidify his status as a premier NFL prospect.
There are high expectations for UCF Knights cornerback Jayden Bellamy heading into next season as a top-30 player at his position.
X user College Football Report (CFBReport) ranked Bellamy 26th overall on Tuesday night. He is one of four Big 12 corners on the list: Texas Tech’s Brice Pollock (second), BYU’s Evan Johnson (10th) and Arizona’s Jay’Vion Cole (29th).
It isn’t the first time throughout the offseason Bellamy has earned recognition. Cam Mellor, PFSN’s chief analytics officer, ranked him as a top-10 cornerback in the Big 12 back in February.
The former Syracuse transfer finished last season first in most forced incompletions with 11. Mellor gave him an 85.1 rating, 3.3 points higher than Cole, making him the sixth-ranked corner.
Bellamy said he wanted to make his mark in a new conference last season after leaving his home state of New Jersey and the ACC. For the Orange, he led the program in interceptions in 2024 and ranked third in the conference in 2023 with two fumble recoveries.
"I feel like just having a chip on my shoulder," Bellamy said. "I always kept a chip on my shoulder, and, you know, I just feel like coming into the Big 12, I feel like just trying to make a mark for my name.
He made his presence known by helping UCF become a top-three pass defense and coming through in the clutch.
In the Knights’ season-opening victory against Jacksonville State, Bellamy made two amazing plays in the Gamecocks’ final drive. He broke up quarterback Gavin Wimsatt’s deep pass to the right sideline, praising his play with the "seatbelt" celebration.
Wimsatt overthrew a pass in Bellamy's coverage area two plays later on a 4th-and-10, and he caught the wide-open game-sealing interception.
Bellamy came up big against Oklahoma State on Senior Knight. He broke up quarterback Zane Flores’ pass, giving his teammate, Braeden Marshall, enough time to sprint over and intercept the batted ball.
He helped send his seniors off with a victory in their last home game at the Acrisure Bounce. Now, he’ll be making the plays for himself and his fellow seniors next season.
Coach Scott Frost lauded his lockdown cornerback as a player he wants to build the program around before the season-ending loss to then-No. 11 BYU. Bellamy has represented UCF at its Big 12 media day in Frisco, Texas, and has been named to the 2027 East-West Shrine Bowl watch list.
He’ll anchor the Knights’ secondary for a second straight season as a corner that quarterbacks should avoid targeting.
