The UCF Knights enter the 2026 spring camp with a revamped running back room full of experience and young, talented players.
UCF has seven running backs: Agyeman Addae, Taevion Swint, Chance Nixon, Arthur Lewis IV, Kaj Baker, Duke Watson and Landen Chambers. This much depth at the position provides coach Scott Frost with multiple playmakers who can make an impact on the field.
Addae, Swint and Nixon are the returners from last season; Lewis IV and Baker are the 2026 recruits; and Watson and Chambers are Frost's newest additions from last month's transfer portal cycle.
Frost confirmed that Swint, Chambers and Watson are the top three players in that position group. He also spoke about what stood out about Chambers and Watson when he was evaluating them in the portal.
"Those are going to be the three, I think, that start the process at the top of the room," Frost said. [I'm] excited about Duke. Like I said, Landon, his tape really, really jumped off at me. It really got my attention because of his size, his balance, and his ability to stay on his feet through contact. We didn't really have a big back last year, and I think he's going to be a little different than the rest of the guys we have. I'm really excited to see him get in our weight room and get bigger, stronger, faster, and seeing what he can do."
Chambers transferred from Central Arkansas and accumulated 1,273 yards on 42 carries and 10 touchdowns. He showcased some receiving abilities with 27 receptions and 238 yards.
Watson transferred from Louisville and ran for 158 yards on 49 carries and a touchdown. Similar to Chambers, he displayed his versatility with 6 receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown.
It's a trend for UCF running backs to have multifaceted play styles, which increases the team's explosiveness on offense and gives opposing defenses a challenge.
Swint is the wild card of the top three because he suffered an injury in last year's fall camp. The injury sidelined him for the entire year, and he earned a redshirt.
However, Frost said he is excited to have the former four-star prospect from Osceola High School back on the field.
"Obviously, having Swint back is big for us," Frost said. "He was doing great through spring ball and fall camp until we lost him. He's an X factor with his speed and big play potential. So excited about those guys. We got two freshmen coming in, too, that I'm excited to see. And then AG's back, and he certainly finished the year strong for us. So I think we got a lot of depth in that room, and [I'm] excited to see the competition.
Question marks plagued the running back room when Myles Montgomery and Jaden Nixon departed after their final game in UCF's black and gold against then-No. 11 BYU.
However, Frost turned it around by recruiting two incoming freshmen and landing two experienced, talented backs in the transfer portal. The future of the running back room for the Knights is bright.
