UCF WR Jonathan Bibbs Enters Transfer Portal Early

Following a dip in the Knights' rotation and the emergence of freshman Tyren Hornes, the former Louisiana-Monroe standout seeks a fresh start and increased playing time elsewhere.

A roster change is on the way for the UCF Knights, as Jonathan Bibbs plans to enter the transfer portal, per On3's Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong.

Bibbs last saw the field in UCF's 42-28 loss to then-No. 18 Oklahoma State on Oct. 10. He didn't catch a pass against the Cowboys, but did in the previous loss to then-No. 20 Houston.

The Louisiana-Monroe transfer tallied five catches for 74 yards and one touchdown this season. Bibbs' lone score came in Week 1 against Bethune-Cookman, catching a 23-yard pass from Alonza Barnett III.

Entering the transfer portal early likely signals that he fell out of the rotation and wants more playing time elsewhere. He didn't play the same role with the Knights as he did with the Warhawks last season.

At Louisiana-Monroe, Bibs caught 26 passes for 348 yards and three touchdowns.

UCF has a deep, talented receiving corps. Josh Derry and Waden Charles lead the group with 690 yards and five touchdowns on 60 receptions.

Freshman Tyren Hornes' breakout could be key in Bibbs' decision to leave Orlando. Hornes had his best career game in the program's historic upset over then-No. 2 BYU on Oct. 24.

He caught six receptions for 137 yards and extended the Knights' drives, picking up crucial first downs. The former four-star recruit took a screen pass for 56 yards and caught the game-winning two-point conversion in double overtime.

Duane Thomas Jr.'s return also likely pushed Bibbs down the depth chart. A hamstring injury sidelined the senior for the entire season until he returned against the Cougars.

Thomas was the Knights' most reliable receiver last season. He led the team in yards (528) and receptions (53) as Frost's Swiss Army knife.

Bibbs' decision to transfer is a bit surprising, but red flags shouldn't be thrown until the end of the season. Frost retained 61% of last year's production, a stark contrast to entering his second tenure with over 70 new transfers.

UCF lost some receiver depth, but the team is preparing for a difficult challenge against Kansas on Saturday.

A winless road record last season extended a bowl drought to two seasons. Conquering road demons would be a step in the right direction, inching one step closer to breaking that horrendous streak and bowl drought.

Frost sported a 4-4 record after eight games last season and finished the season 1-3. He cannot repeat history, especially after pulling off a historic upset against BYU, who dashed their hopes last year.
