UCF secures a prolific ball hawk as the Nease High School standout chooses Orlando over SEC rivals, bolstering the Knights' defensive future with elite local talent.
With this year's UCF football roster set, the Knights' staff has begun to prepare for the future, securing commitments from multiple 2027 recruits.
On Saturday, standout Nease High School safety Kash Kolbow became the latest commit, choosing the Knights over teams like Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
He becomes the first safety commit in the 2027 cycle, adding to defensive coordinator Alex Grinch's defense.

Kolbow joins Thompson High School tight end Tanner Ehmen and Lake Mary linebacker Patrick Ryan as the latest additions to UCF's 2027 class, and continues the Knights' trend of local recruiting.
So far, UCF's five recruits in next year's cycle are from Ponta Vedra Beach, Sarasota, Ocala, Hialeah, and Alabaster, AL, showing UCF's ability to attract talent from Florida and neighboring states.
Kolbow is currently ranked as the No. 103 safety in the nation, and the No. 104 player overall in the state, grading in with an 86 composite grade.
After a solid 2024 season, Kolbow broke out as a junior, recording 68 tackles, two tackles for loss, 23 pass break-ups, two forced fumbles, one recovery, and two interceptions, doing it all for Nease's defense.
Kolbow's 23 PBUs are very impressive, as the 6-foot, 180-pound ball hawk has a knack for the football.
With high school teams beginning to get ready for the upcoming season, Kolbow and Nease took the field against Raines High School on Thursday, where the newest UCF commit recorded an interception.
UCF's defensive backfield is very experienced, leaving some significant holes after this season.
With the room having nine seniors, Kolbow could be in line for playing time early into his career.
UCF has also been pushing for 3-star DB/WR Nazir Pitchford, who has a visit locked in with the Knights in late May.
Originally committed to Kansas State, Pitchford reopened his recruitment, scheduling visits with multiple Big 12 teams.
While playing both sides of the ball, Pitchford recorded six tackles and one pass breakup, adding 344 yards and seven touchdowns on 34 receptions.
On Saturday, Pitchford talked with Knights247 and Roundtable reporter Andrew Cherico, where he announced his top 4: UCF, Boston College, Kansas, and North Carolina.
It will be interesting to see how Pitchford is utilized at the next level.
For Kolbow, he is likely in line for a monster statistical season, looking to build on his stellar junior campaign.
