With a clear focus on local recruiting, UCF's staff has done a good job of bringing in talent from across the state for 2027.
Wide Receiver Kaneilius Purdy is the Knights' highest-ranked recruit in the class thus far, with 247 Sports ranking him the No. 88 player.
Purdy currently plays defensive back for Lake Wales, and is currently listed as a running back, safety, and wide receiver on their depth chart.
In his season opener, Purdy exploded for nine catches, 140 yards, and two scores.
On Wednesday, Purdy signed to an NIL management group, joining the Influencer Counsel.
This will allow Purdy to maximize his representation heading into college next season, which is beneficial for the program he is joining.
Purdy chose the Knights over many standout programs, including Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, joining a versatile 2027 UCF class.
Last season was when Purdy really hit his stride, recording 1,392 all-purpose yards and doing most of his damage as a receiver.
Purdy is a big-play threat who can get free for game-wrecking catches.
Purdy notched 1,045 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, while also serving as the Highlanders' punt returner and kickoff specialist.
On the defensive side of the football, Purdy had 15 tackles and one interception.
This type of versatility and athletic ability is becoming more common in high school football, with players beginning to play both sides of the ball more-frequently.
But, with UCF, Purdy will likely take on a role as wide receiver, joining a young core of Waden Charles and Tyren Hornes.
Charles has gotten off to a hot start to his sophomore campaign, recording a touchdown in each of the two games he has played in.
In the Knights' rainy low-scoring loss to Pittsburgh, Charles was the only player to find the endzone, getting free for his first career score.
Charles was a key contributor down the stretch of last season, and talked about his goal to be one of the leaders this year.
Hornes, on the other hand, has gotten off to a slow start, but finds himself with limited opportunities.
The 4-star freshman has shown flashes of big-play potential, and has great speed.
With Duane Thomas Jr. continuing to battle an injury, expect Hornes' opportunities to increase.
Adding Purdy to this young core is exciting for a Knights' team that is still looking to click in the pass game.
With Alonza Barnett III leaving next season, UCF will likely be in the market for a transfer QB, who could be drawn by the ability in the receiving room.
