A top 2027 quarterback prospect reopens his recruitment. Find out what prompted his surprising decision and where he might land next.

On Tuesday, 3-star 2027 QB commit Logan Flaherty announced he would be reopening his commitment, ending his pledge to UCF.

"I want to thank Coach Milton and the rest of the UCF Football staff, but after a lot of thought and prayer I will be officially opening up my recruitment. Where’s home?" Flaherty wrote via X.

Flaherty originally committed to UCF back in October, serving as the Knights' first commit in the 2027 class. He chose UCF over in-state rival schools like USF, Miami, Florida State, and Florida, along with other Big 12 competitors like Texas Tech.

However, after flipping 4-star freshman QB Rocco Marriott from James Madsion this offseason, Flaherty's future in UCF's QB room changed. A similar thing happened to previous UCF commit Kane Archer, who announced his decision to decommit shortly after the news.

Archer had also been committed to the Knights since April and in previous interviews, had voiced his excitement about joining the program.

A local product, Flaherty plays his high school football at Port Charlotte High School.

He saw a huge jump in his stock after his sophomore season, as he set a school record 34 touchdowns. Flaherty was praised for his ability to extend plays and his poise for his age.

Two seasons ago, Port Charlotte's team underwent a huge turnover, losing over 20 seniors, but head coach Jordan Ingman praised Flaherty for filling the void with his leadership.

"Towards the end of last year, he became our offensive leader. So coming into this year he was definitely, undoubtedly the guy," Ingman told WINK. "He's one of the guys who raises the intent of every single guy in the room. He's a tremendous leader. One of the best we've ever had."

Of course, losing a recruit, especially in the QB department is difficult, but Marriott projects as a developmental piece for head coach Scott Frost to work with.

By flipping to the Knights, he became the highest-ranked QB commit in program history, grading in as a highly-ranked 4-star.

Marriott is a legit candidate to play next season, following after Alonza Barnett III, a fellow James Madison transfer.

Standing at 6'4 and weighing 220 pounds, Marriott's physical tools are advanced for his age and many Knights fans are excited to see him in black and gold.
