Johnny Dawkins secures a massive recruiting win as the Virginia standout chooses the Knights over SEC rivals, becoming the fifth-highest ranked commit in program history.
UCF men's basketball head coach Johnny Dawkins has continued to make strides on the recruiting trail, with multiple highly-touted prospects making recent visits to Orlando.
On Thursday morning, the Knights received a major commitment, with 6-foot-6 combo guard Jacoby Briscoe pledging to UCF.
"Mission Accepted. COMMITTED. Im officially launching into the Big 12 with @UCF.MBB! Welcome to Disney. Let’s ride," Briscoe wrote via X.
Ranked the No. 2 player in the state of Virginia, Briscoe chose UCF over programs closer to home like Vanderbilt and Mississippi State, crediting Dawkins for the vision he provided on his visit.
"I mean the first time I stepped on campus I could feel the family environment especially from Coach Dawkins," Briscoe told 247Sports. "When I spoke with him he explained how his vision for me is to become a true combo guard."
Briscoe averaged 14 points per game this past season for The St. James Academy, while taking a big step forward as a 3-point shooter.
His official commitment marks a big win for Dawkins on the recruiting trail, with his 247 Sports ranking making him the fifth-highest ranked recruit to ever commit to the program.
After missing out on fellow four-star guard Lucai Anderson, landing Briscoe gives Dawkins a high-ceiling guard to build around in the future.
It has been some time since a freshman made a big impact in his opening season for UCF, but that could change this season with Jahda Swann.
The thing that stood out to me was Swann's length and size, as he is listed at 6-foot-4, 180 pounds, but has seemingly put on some muscle during the preseason.
As the No. 170 overall player in the class, Swann has risen to the No. 23 guard, boasting an impressive high school resumé.
After averaging 25.5 points, 12 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game at Jefferson High School in Brooklyn, Swann finished out his high school career at The St. James, the same school as Briscoe.
He once again displayed his ability to fill it up, leading his team in scoring at 16.5 points per contest.
During his time in New York, he led his team to a city championship, while earning an East Coast McDonald's All-American nomination.
In Virginia, Swann played against much tougher competition, but his scoring remained effective.
Like Briscoe, Swann is a versatile guard who can score the ball with the best of them.
As the season kicks off, it will be interesting to see if the first-year can crack the guard-heavy rotation.
