Keyone Jenkins shattered records with a near-perfect completion rate, fueling a gritty defensive masterclass as the Knights overcame key injuries to secure a statement victory over the Horned Frogs.

The Knights overcame multiple starters being sidelined on Saturday against TCU, beating the Horned Frogs 21-13, and opening up conference play with a victory.

The defense was the story of the game, with Alex Grinch's unit forcing four turnovers and getting to TCU quarterback Jaden Craig frequently.

But, the offense was efficient as well, with backup quarterback Keyone Jenkins making program history with his performance.

The FIU transfer completed 19 of his 20 passing attempts, with his 95% completion percentage sitting atop the UCF record books.

Ironically, he passed his current mentor and QB coach McKenzie Milton, who posted a 92% single-game rate in 2017.

Milton took to Instagram to congratulate his QB, writing "It really be your own" on Instagram.

Jenkins quickly replied, writing "Love ya Coachy," showing the relationship the two have formed throughout just one offseason.

Outside of a redzone fumble late in the second quarter, Jenkins did a great job keeping the ball out of harms way and taking what the defense was giving him.

He was decisive in run-pass options, often finding his receivers on quick outs and curls.

Jenkins spread the wealth similar to Alonza Barnett III was before his injury, with ten different players recording a catch.

His lone touchdown pass went to redshirt freshman tight end Caden Piening, who has shown flashes that he could be a big producer this season.

Given the nickname "Lights out," Jenkins has shown the ability to be serviceable throughout his career, playing at the Group of Five level.

While last season was a bit of a down year for Jenkins, who posted career lows in passing yards (1,742) and passing touchdowns (9), he brings a level of experience to the room that is crucial during starting quarterback Alonza Barnett III's missed time.

Jenkins, one of many in-state transfers head coach Scott Frost brought in this Spring, has thrown for for nearly 7,000 yards in his three-year career.

Heading into a very tough stretch of the schedule, taking on three current ranked squads over the next few weeks, Frost will need Jenkins to continue to play smart and efficient football.

Barnett is projected to miss a few more weeks, with the coaching staff likely taking a cautious approach with his return.

First off in the three-week gauntlet is No. 20 Houston, who always gives UCF a competitive game.

Last season, the Cougars spoiled UCF's notorious Space Game, handing the program the first loss in the history of the themed event.

The Knights look to avenge their loss Saturday at 12:00 p.m., taking the trip to Houston.
