Knights' point guard Themus Fulks adds another national honor, showcasing elite playmaking and clutch performances as a top transfer impact player.
In a season where UCF returned none of its scoring contribution from last year, fifth-year senior point guard Themus Fulks has been the leader and facilitator the Knights so badly needed.
Tuesday morning, Fulks received yet another accolade, being named to the NABC Southeast District Second Team.
Fulks is averaging 14.1 points and 6.7 assists per game, while shooting a career-best 40.8% from 3-point range. Fulks' 6.7 assists ranks top-11 nation-wide and top-three in the Big 12.
Fulks also earned a nomination for the Riley Wallace Player of the Year this week. According to the award's website, "the award is presented annually to the most impactful transfer in division I college basketball."
This most recent award adds to Fulks growing list of accomplishments in his lone year in Black and Gold, as he was recently was named to the All-Big 12 Third Team and All-Newcomer Team, serving as one of the top transfers in all of college basketball.
During UCF's 97-84 rout of No. 19 BYU, Fulks added another accolade to his growing list of achievements.
Fulks scored 24 points while dropping 11 dimes, setting the single-season assist record and breaking the previous mark of 183 set by Knights Hall of Famer Sinua Phillips (1991-1994).
Phillips was part of the first UCF squad to make the NCAA Division 1 Tournament, leading the 1994 Golden Knights to a 21-9 record and an Atlantic Sun tournament title. He remains the only player in UCF history to score more than 1,000 points and dish out more than 500 assists, according to UCF Athletics.
The veteran point guard has also been Mr. Clutch for UCF this season, coming through in the biggest moments on multiple occasions. Most recently, against Utah, Fulks closed a 24-point performance with two game-winning free throws, sealing a 73-71 victory.
Following the game, Fulks told ESPN+ sideline reporter Sammy Miller, "We're trying to win it all."
Fulks earned three Big 12 Starting Five nods throughout the season, providing consistent playmaking and efficient scoring to head coach Johnny Dawkins and the Knights.
Fulks' top scoring performance of the season came against then-ranked No. 1 Arizona, where he gave the Wildcats a "30-piece," according to Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd.
"He's [Themus] a heck of a player. He's got good speed, he's got good swag and good confidence. You know, we kind of had him pegged as a little bit more of a passer. You know, he's had twelve assists each of the last two games," Lloyd said. "We knew he could score a little bit and we told our guys that he's also a double-figure scorer, but you know, he hit some pretty tough shots."
Fulks will be a big key for the Knights as they look towards returning to the Big Dance for the first time in six seasons.
