UCF's Themus Fulks Joins Denver Nuggets' G-League Affiliate

After shattering UCF’s single-season assist record, the All-Big 12 playmaker heads to the Grand Rapids Gold to showcase his elite vision and pursue an NBA future.

Last year's UCF men's basketball squad will go down in program history as one of the most-unlikely teams to make March Madness, as head coach Johnny Dawkins molded together an all-new team.

Key transfers like Riley Kugel, Jordan Burks, and Themus Fulks led the way, serving as UCF's top three scorers.

Fulks, who was one of the top assist-men in the entire country, could argue he was the best player on the Knights' squad, leading the offense and serving as the team's facilitator.

Following the end of the season, Fulks declared for the NBA Draft, ending up undrafted and spending the NBA Summer League with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Both Fulks and Kugel got limited run with Los Angeles, but Fulks has now found a new opportunity.

On Saturday, Fulks was selected No. 12 overall in the NBA G-League draft, landing with the Laketown Squadron before being dealt to the Grand Rapids Gold on draft night.

The Gold are the Denver Nuggets' G-League affiliate, and have seen multiple high-level players pass through, such as Isaiah Thomas, Peyton Watson, and Trevon Duval.

For Fulks, this marks a good opportunity to play for a respected franchise and potentially earn a two-way spot with the Nuggets.

With UCF, Fulks averaged 14 points, 6.7 assists and 3 rebounds, shooting a team-high 46.2% from the field in his lone season with the Knights.

For his play, Fulks earned Third-Team All-Big 12 Honors, marking the first time a Knight has found their way onto an Big 12 All-Conference Team.

He also was named to the Big 12 Starting Five three times throughout the season, providing consistent playmaking and efficient scoring.

During UCF's 97-84 rout of No. 19 BYU, Fulks scored 24 points while dropping 11 dimes.

His tenth made history, breaking the UCF single-season record for assists, breaking the previous mark of 183 set by Knights Hall of Famer Sinua Phillips (1991-1994).

By the end of the season, Fulks racked up 222 dimes, beating out the previous record by a wide margin.

While Fulks' vision is his biggest strength, it can also make him a bit too creative with his passes.

At times, Fulks caught the turnover bug last season, but would usually slow himself down and make up for his mistakes.

Fulks' 39.2% mark from 3-point range was a big improvement, but the 6-foot-2 lead guard will need to continue to develop his shot from distance to stand out in the perimeter-centric NBA.

The G-League season begins Friday, Nov. 6.
