No. 2 UConn Men Easily Defeat Big East Nemesis cover image

Creighton came into the game with the Huskies on Saturday with a 9-3 all-time record.

The first 15-plus minutes of No. 2 UConn’s game Saturday night against Creighton had to have left Huskies fans with that “here we go again” feeling.

The Bluejays entered the game with a 9-3 all-time record against the Huskies and had won three of the past four.

It wasn’t until a late burst in the first half gave UConn an 11-point lead that Huskies fans could exhale. From there, the Huskies cruised to an 85-58 win in a Big East matchup in Omaha, Neb.

It was the 17th consecutive win for UConn, which is the third-longest streak in program history.

Braylon Mullins, who missed the Huskies’ win Tuesday against Providence with a concussion, returned to the starting lineup and scored a team-high 16 points. Alex Karaban and Silas Demary Jr. each had 15 points and added six rebounds. Solo Ball put in 11 points.

The Huskies and Bluejays played a tight first half, with UConn’s biggest lead four points until Creighton’s Nik Graves hit a 3-pointer to tie the score at 27 with 4:41 remaining. UConn (21-1, 11-0) responded with a 14-3 run to end the half and effectively take control of the game.

Creighton (12-10, 6-5) scored a quick basket after halftime on a Blake Harper layup to cut the UConn lead to nine, but that was the last time the score differential hit single digits.

Graves led the Bluejays with 17 points. Harper scored 11 and added a team-high five rebounds.

UConn shot 54.1%, including 51.6% from 3-point range (16 of 31). Creighton was held to 40.9% shooting and was just 5 of 21 (23.8%) from long distance.

The Huskies outrebounded the Bluejays 37-24, which led to 23 second-chance points to eight for Creighton. UConn had a 44-28 advantage in the second half.

Next up for the Huskies

The Huskies will play a home game on Tuesday against head coach Richard Pitino and Xavier. And on Friday, UConn will travel to Madison Square Garden in New York for a highly anticipated clash with Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino and No. 25 St. John’s.

UConn women

When the No. 1 UConn women take the court Sunday, it will have been 360 days since they lost a game.

In that span for UConn:

  • 38 consecutive wins
  • 22 consecutive Big East wins
  • 1 Big East championship
  • 1 national championship

It’s with those achievements in mind that the Huskies (22-0, 12-0 Big East) will meet No. 15 Tennessee (14-4, 6-1 Southeastern Conference) on Sunday at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, Conn. The Lady Volunteers were the last team to beat the Huskies on Feb. 6, 2025, 80-76, in Knoxville, Tenn.
