The Huskies achieve a feat no Division I team has reached in a generation.
Head coach Geno Auriemma’s UConn Huskies went to the locker room at halftime up 24 points against Big East foe DePaul on Wednesday night, but he certainly had a criticism to for his undefeated team.
“I think we have five turnovers trying to throw the ball into the post, so I don't get it. So we need to clean that up. We’re moving pretty well without the ball. OK, so if we could just get the ball movement instead of like forcing, forcing inside.” he told TNT Sports at the intermission.
Clean it up the No. 1-ranked Huskies did in the second half, defeating DePaul 86-40 in Chicago. The win completed UConn’s season sweep of the Blue Demons (5-20, 2-12), having beaten them 102-35 at home on Dec. 7.
DePaul was more competitive this time, holding UConn (24-0, 13-0) to just 13 points in the second quarter, opposed to 30 points in the first meeting.
Still, UConn had way too much firepower for DePaul to prevent the Huskies from achieving their 60th consecutive Big East win, including postseason tournaments. It was their 40th overall win in a row.
The Huskies now have won 19 consecutive games by 25 points or more, which is the longest streak by a Division I team over the past 25 seasons.
UConn moved to 28-1 all-time vs. DePaul, including 28-0 under Auriemma.
