UConn continued its March march toward a 13th consecutive conference championship with a 100-51 win over Creighton on Sunday in the semifinals of the Big East tournament at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
The Huskies – the top seed in the tournament and the No. 1-ranked team in the nation – dominated fifth-seeded Creighton from the outset, outscoring the Blue Jays 29-9 in the first quarter behind nine points each from Sarah Strong and KK Arnold.
Creighton (16-15) cut the deficit to 14 in the first 90 seconds of the second quarter after a quick 8-2 run. But UConn (32-0) went to business, scoring 15 unanswered points and finishing the quarter on a 26-5 run, giving UConn an insurmountable 57-22 lead.
By the end of the third quarter, the lead had grown to 82-38.

In the final at 7 p.m. Monday, UConn will face No. 2 seed Villanova, which defeated No. 3 Seton Hall 62-48 in the other semifinal. The Huskies have reached every conference tournament final since 2004 – a season in which they went on to win a national championship.
As is typical, Strong didn’t play in the fourth quarter on Sunday, with head coach Geno Auriemma accustomed to sitting his starters for all or most of the period because of an enormous lead.
Still, Strong finished with 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-4 from 3-point territory. She added seven rebounds, four assists, three blocks and six steals in 25 minutes.
Arnold played just 15 minutes and scored 18 points to go with four assists and two steals.
Azzi Fudd scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting – 3 of 4 from long distance – and had six assists and three steals in 24 minutes.
UConn got 34 points from the bench. Kayleigh Heckel scored nine points and added team highs in rebounds (eight) and assists (seven). Allie Ziebell contributed eight points, and Jana El Alfy added seven points and seven rebounds in 15 minutes.
Speaking to NBC Sports after the game, Auriemma credited Arnold and Strong for getting the team off to such a big start.
“KK set the tone real early,” he said. “She just is a real catalyst for us. When KK gets off to a great start and when she's creating the opportunities for us – and then Sarah – hopefully that's a great way to start every game. (When) we get somebody like KK and then somebody like Sarah going makes life easy for me.”
