The Huskies are only two games into the 2026 campaign, but we did get a little bit of information about the 2027 campaign earlier this week.
The 2026 UConn Huskies football team has only played two games this season and still has plenty of runway in front of it, but we got some information earlier this week on the 2027 UConn schedule already.
As noted by FBSchedules.com, the Huskies will still play North Carolina next season, on the road in Chapel Hill. That's important because UNC had to drop a non-conference opponent, and they've dropped Purdue instead.
What is the deal here?
Beginning this season, the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) has added another conference game to each team's schedule moving forward. The idea is that, in a 12-game schedule, each school has nine conference games, one non-conference game against another Power Four school (or Notre Dame), and then two other non-conference games.
The hope is that this scheduling format will gave the ACC a better chance at standout victories, which will help the league's positioning in the College Football Playoff discussion.
So, as a result of this rule, ACC teams are having to drop opponents from established schedules. In this case, UNC is dropping Purdue and keeping UConn, Central Florida and North Alabama.
The obvious implication here is that North Carolina feels better about its chances to beat UConn than it does Purdue.
Another thing to note
UConn played Syracuse last year, and has Syracuse has on the schedule again this year. The two teams are scheduled to play each other again next season, and UConn is also scheduled to play Pitt. We'll see if this rule affects those games moving forward.
As for UConn and UNC this year
The Huskies will host the Tar Heels on Nov. 7 this season in what will be an incredible atmosphere. This will be the first time that Bill Belichick has coached in New England since he was fired by the New England Patriots at the end of the 2023 NFL season. He led the Patriots to six Super Bowl titles and is the most decorated coach in NFL history.

After a tough loss against Maryland last Saturday, UConn is back in action on Saturday night (7 p.m. ET) against Southern Miss. Both teams are 1-1, as the Golden Eagles are coming off a 43-8 loss at the hands of Auburn.
The Huskies rolled over Lafayette 56-7 in their opener on Sept. 5. The Eagles are also 1-1, having beaten Alcorn State in their opener.
