The Huskies opened up the exhibition season on Monday night with a win over Boston College at Mohegan Sun, and the sharpshooter provided a solid game, even if he had only one shoe for a portion of it.

The University of Connecticut men's basketball team opened up its exhibition slate on Monday night with a victory over regional-rival Boston College at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn.

It was a part of day-night doubleheader in which the UConn women also beat the Eagles.

Connecticut, who is ranked No. 4 in the preseason AP Top 25, got 17 points from Alex Karaban, to go along with 11 rebounds, four assists and two blocks.

He also provided one of the signature moments of the night, hitting a three-pointer with only one shoe.

Afterwards, he had some fun with NBC Sports Boston, saying that he was missing all his other three-pointers, so why not try with just one shoe. He also added that since he's a shooter, he's just going to keep shooting, even when he's struggling.

    About Karaban

A 6-8 redshirt senior from Massachusetts, he'll continue to play a big role in the Huskies offense this season. A captain, he averaged 14.3 ppg last season as UConn went 14-2 in Big East play and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. He shot 34.7 percent from three.

He played nearly 36 minutes per game and also joined the 1,000 point club a season ago.

    What's next

The Huskies will play another exhibition matchup against Michigan State on Oct. 28. The Spartans, one of the top programs in the country, got to the Elite 8 a season ago and will provide a good early test for Dan Hurley's group.

After that, it's onto the regular season. Connecticut will open that up on Nov. 3 against Division II New Haven, but they will play a very challenging non-league schedule that includes the likes of Texas, Florida and Kansas.
