The UConn Huskies women's basketball program was back on the floor on Sunday in Fairfield, Conn., with a public practice event.

While we didn't get a ton of information about the event, we did get some coverage from Jake McCreven, who had a few key observations.

1) Ashlynn Shade had a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to end practice and received accolades for all of her movement around the floor.

2) Allie Ziebell came onto the court with a boot on her foot and did not practice. We had not gotten any word that she was dealing with an injury previously.

3) Blanca Quinonez, Morgan Cheli and Marine Dursus did not participate in team drills. We've known for months that Quinonez had shoulder surgery this offseason and was working to get back for the start of the season. Previous reports indicated that she wouldn't be ready for full contact until September or October, so evidently, we are not there yet.

Here's more of what you need to know about the players mentioned.

A rising sophomore from Ecuador, Quinonez was one of the most impactful players on the Huskies group that went unbeaten in the 2025-26 regular season and then swept through the Big East tournament. At 6-foot-2, she played alongside Sarah Strong in the frontcourt, giving UConn one of the best frontcourts in the entire nation. In 31 games, she averaged 10.7 ppg and 3.1 rebounds while also dishing out 2.1 assists.

She shot 53.6 percent from the floor and 39.5 percent from three-point range, taking nearly three 3's per night.

She was named the Big East Freshman of the Year as well as the league's Sixth Woman of the Year. The Huskies went 38-1 in total, only losing in the Final Four to South Carolina.

A senior from Indiana, Shade has appeared in 117 games in three seasons. She averaged 11.0 ppg in the 2023-24 campaign, but has seen her production drop in each of the last two seasons. She averaged 7.6 ppg last year, playing 26.8 minutes per night.

She shot 31.8 percent from 3-point range.

A 6-foot native of Wisconsin, Ziebell is now in her third year with the Huskies. A national champion in her freshman season alongside Paige Bueckers, Strong and Azzi Fudd, she's played in 72 games through two years. A solid outside shooter, she shot 41 percent from 3-point range last season, averaging 7.2 ppg. She also averaged nearly two rebounds a game while adding an assist and a steal.

UConn will continue practice until the start of the exhibition season, which begins on Monday, Oct. 12 against Syracuse. That game will be played at Mohegan Sun.
