Seventh-year UConn quarterback Joe Fagnano is getting his recognition.
After leading the Huskies to a 51-10 victory on Saturday over FIU, Fagnano has been named one of eight Manning Award “Stars of the Week” for Week 6.
The Manning Award, founded in 2004 by the Sugar Bowl in honor of the college careers of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning, each week recognizes the top quarterback performers from across the country.
And fans can go to the Manning Award’s official website to cast their vote for Fagnano for the Manning Award winner if they think he was the top performer of the week. The voting closes Wednesday at 10 a.m. Eastern time.
Fagnano played just three quarters in the blowout and finished 22-of-28 passing for 355 yards and four touchdowns. He added four rushing yards for 359 total yards and wasn’t intercepted. It was his most passing yards with UConn. He played at Maine before transferring to UConn ahead of the 2023 season.
On the 2025 season, he is 131-of-195 passing (67.2%) for 1,556 yards, 11 touchdowns and no interceptions.
Coach Mora on Joe Fagnano
And after leading the Huskies (4-2) to three straight wins, Fagnano has drawn the praise of head coach Jim Mora.
“He’s played a lot of football and with that comes a lot of confidence,” Mora said. “The thing about Joe is he’s steady. He doesn’t change whether he’s throwing touchdowns or he’s struggling or he’s getting hit. It doesn’t matter. And I think the added thing the last couple weeks we’ve seen that’s really helped is his ability to tuck it and go. I just want to make sure he gets down, I don’t like it when our quarterback is taking hits. But it’s really fun to see him kind of take it to the next level.”
After six games, Fagnano is seventh in the NCAA in total passing yards, 22nd in passing touchdowns and 25th in passing yards per game with an average of 259.3.
He is currently ranked seventh in the NCAA in passing yards, 22nd in passing TDs, and 25th in passing yards per game (259.3).
