Congratulations are in order for former University of Connecticut women's basketball standout Azzi Fudd, who won the WNBA's three-point contest on Friday night.

The three-point contest was one of the events to kick off All-Star weekend, with the All-Star Game being played on Saturday in Chicago.

Fudd won the event with a final round score of 30, and she is the first rookie to ever win the competition. She also made some UConn history, as she is the first Huskies' alum to ever win the event, which is shocking considering the great players that have come from UConn - and participated in this contest.

Diana Taurasi appeared in the contest in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Sue Bird appeared in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Swin Cash was in the contest in 2010 while Maya Moore appeared in 2017. None of them ever won.

It should be noted that the three-point contest was first held in 2006, and then was out of the All-Star program from 2011-16.

A five-year standout for the Huskies, Fudd played in 115 career games, starting 98 of them. She missed nearly all of her junior season with injury, but came back to huge success in her redshirt junior and senior years. As a redshirt junior, she led the Big East in three-point shooting percentage (43.6) while scoring 13.6 ppg and helping the Huskies win the national championship.

This past season, with Paige Bueckers having graduated, she led the Big East in three-point shooting again (44.7 percent) while elevating her game to 17.3 ppg. She led the Huskies to an undefeated regular season and a trip to the Final Four, where they were upended by South Carolina. Fudd was a first-team All-American. She was also a two-time All-Big East selection during her time in Storrs.

Fudd was the seventh No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft out of UConn, joining Bird (2002), Taurasi (2004), Tina Charles (2010), Moore (2011), Breanna Stewart (2016) and Bueckers (2025). Like Bueckers, she was selected by the Dallas Wings.

Through 26 games thus far, Fudd is averaging 13.2 points per game and 1.9 assists. She has started 20 games for the Wings and is averaging 31.6 minutes per night. She is shooting 45.7 percent from the floor and 38.7 percent from three-point range, making two a game.

She is also pulling down nearly two rebounds a game. The Wings are 18-9 and in fourth place in the Western Conference.

While  Bueckers wasn't participating in the three-point contest, she was there to watch Fudd's show. She caught up former teammates Sarah Strong and Kelis Fisher.
