The Huskies -- and potentially future Huskies -- always seem to be in the news.

UConn continued to make news this week, and here's some that flew under the radar, in case you missed it.

First, Huskies legend Sue Bird took her place this week in the FIBA Basketball Hall of Fame, honored for her achievements in basketball around the world. FIBA is the governing body of international basketball.

Bird, who already was a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, was presented for induction at the FIBA ceremony in Berlin by her UConn head coach, Geno Auriemma. She played for the Huskies from 1998-2002, winning two national championships and was named national player of the year in her senior season.

“I’ve been lucky to have a lot of meaningful moments in my career, but this one feels different because it isn’t about one team, or one league, or one city,” Bird said in a statement. “It’s about the game on a global level."

In international play, Bird won five gold medals for the United States at the 2004, ‘08, ‘12, ‘16 and ‘20. She also won four world championships.

The Seattle Storm selected Bird with the No. 1 pick of the 2002 WNBA Draft, and she retired following the 2022 season. She now is the managing director of the Women’s National Team. She is responsible for selecting the coaching staff and players of the 2026 FIBA World Cup and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

The FIBA Hall of Fame is in Mies, Switzerland. In all, the 2026 class consists of eight people, including former NBA star Dirk Nowitzki.

Cayden Suchy honored

Huskies left-hander Cayden Suchy is a semi-finalist for the College Baseball Hall of Fame National Pitcher of the Year.

Through 10 starts in 2026, Suchy has a 3-1 record and an ERA of 2.59.  He has thrown 66 innings, allowing 23 runs (19 earned) on 50 hits and 17 walks, and adding 85 strikeouts.

Suchy has pitched well all season, but two games, in particular, stand out. He got the win on March 28 when he pitched eight shutout innings, allowed one hit and one walk, and struck out 10 in an 8-0 win against Xavier.

At Butler on April 11, he took the 3-1 win after giving up one run on three hits over nine innings. He didn’t walk a batter but tallied 11 strikeouts.

UConn has a 22-20 record (7-5 Big East) heading into the final month of the regular season. The Huskies have 14 games remaining, beginning with a three-game series starting Friday at Georgetown.

Football Huskies a finalist for Floridian

Larry Morgan, a Class of 2027 cornerback from West Boca Raton High School in Florida, has tabbed UConn as one of his six finalists. The 3-star prospect previously announced his scheduled visit to coach Jason Candle and the Huskies, set for the end of May.

More recently, Morgan announced on social media that, in addition to UConn, his finalists are Northwestern, South Florida, Michigan State, Tulane and Boston College. He has official visits set up with each school but South Florida.
