Congratulations are in order for University of Connecticut women's basketball standouts Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong, who were named to the late-season watch list for the Naismith Trophy Women's College Player of the Year Award on Tuesday.
Both players are integral parts of the Huskies' 27-0 record, which includes a perfect 16-0 inside Big East Conference play.
Here's what you need to know.
Just a sophomore, Strong has established herself as one of the best all-around players in the country. Averaging 19.2 ppg and 7.5 rebounds, she also dishes out 4.3 assists per game. She's shooting an incredible 59.1 percent from the floor, 39.6 percent from three-point range and 90.5 percent at the foul line.
An All-American as a freshman, she was also the Big East Rookie of the Year in 2024-25.
A redshirt senior, Fudd continues to help carry the program in the absence of the now-graduated Paige Bueckers. A starter in all 27 games this campaign, she's averaging 17.8 ppg and 3.0 assists. She's shooting a Big East best 46.3 percent from three-point range and also hands out three assists per night.
Both players would have even higher numbers if they played the entirety of the game. Because UConn has spent so much time blowing opponents out, they have spent many fourth quarters on the bench.
Both players were named to the Wooden Award Late Season Watch List last week as well.
From UConn Athletics:
Seven Huskies have won the Naismith Trophy 11 times: Rebecca Lobo (1995), Sue Bird (2002), Diana Taurasi (2003, '04), Maya Moore (2009, '11), Tina Charles (2010), Breanna Stewart (2014, '15, '16) and Paige Bueckers (2021).
The full list of players can be seen here, but also on the list are Lauren Betts (UCLA), Flau'jae Johnson (LSU) and Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame). There are 30 players in total.
--The University of Connecticut football program saw its full schedule for 2026 get released on Tuesday morning. The Huskies will play a 12-game schedule, with seven of those games coming at home. There are prominent matchups with Bill Belichick and a College Football Playoff participant from 2025.
--The UConn men's basketball team is home again on Wednesday against Creighton. The Huskies are 24-2 and ranked No. 5 nationally. The program will retire the No. 50 of Emeka Okafor at halftime. How many other UConn players have had their numbers retired? We tackled that here.
