Former University of Connecticut women's basketball standout Paige Bueckers was in attendance for the Huskies' season-opening contest against No. 20 Louisville on Tuesday night in Annapolis, Md.
The historic game was the first iteration of the Armed Forces Classic to feature two women's teams. The Huskies are ranked No. 1 in the nation at the start of the season and are coming off a national championship, which Bueckers helped lead them to.
She was the No. 1 overall pick by the Dallas Wings in the WNBA Draft and captured the league's Rookie of the Year Award.
Bueckers caught up with ESPN's Holly Rowe in the second quarter and talked about some of her former teammates and what she thought of watching the game as a fan. The full video is available in the player above.

Just the passion and intensity that she's always played with. I was very excited for her to take ownership of the team. She's learned from Nika (Muhl). She's learned from me. She learned from Kaitlyn Chen. So for this to be her team and her time to run the team as the point guard, she's doing a great job.
Just to focus on what matters, focus on the team, focus on being present. I think that's sort of the mindset that we had the entire last year which I've embodied, which she's learning to embody of just staying present, staying where your feet are. There's a lot of outside voices, a lot of expectations, lots of pressures, but if you focus on where you are in the moment, all of that is just noise.

Bueckers averaged 19.2 ppg with the Wings in her first season (36 games). She also averaged 5.4 assists per game. Her final year at UConn saw her average 19.9 ppg. She was the National Player of the Year as well.
