The two schools have been longstanding rivals on the hardwood, but this is only the 15th all-time meeting between football programs.
On Saturday, the UConn Huskies football team will host the Syracuse Orange in East Hartford. The Huskies (2-2) are looking to get back over .500 following a difficult loss against Miami (Ohio) last weekend. The Orange (1-2) are looking to get back to .500 following two losses against Cal and Pitt, as well as a bye week.
While these programs are longstanding rivals on the hardwood, they have only met 14 times previously in football, including Syracuse's 27-20 overtime win a season ago.

1) Syracuse is set to start Steve Angeli at quarterback. The quarterback who beat UConn in 2025, Angeli tore his Achilles in the fourth game of the season. Syracuse went 0-8 in his absence.
He returned this year and led the Orange to a 66-3 season-opening win against New Hampshire, but he's struggled in the two losses since, throwing five total interceptions. There had been chatter that transfer Amari Odom could start, but instead, it will be Angeli. However, Odom is in the mix for some time.
2) This will be the first collegiate game for Syracuse wide receiver Calvin Russell III. A five-star recruit from Florida, Russell is one of the best recruits the Orange have ever gotten. He tore his Achilles in spring ball and is making his return just barely over six months later, which is rather incredible.
3) There's a ton of crossover between these two rosters and coaching staffs, which will make this matchup fascinating. Just for starters: Vince Kehres is the defensive coordinator for Syracuse. He served in the same role under Jason Candle at Toledo. Nunzio Campanile is the offensive coordinator for UConn after serving as an offensive assistant with the Orange for the last few years.
As for the rest of the rivalry
The two schools will square off against each other in exhibition basketball action early in October. The women's programs will play on Oct. 12 while the men's programs take the floor on Oct. 13.
Both games will happen at Mohegan Sun Arena.
