Several Huskies alums have played in the big leagues this season, but only one has a true playoff opportunity it seems.
Over the course of the 2026 Major League Baseball season, seven UConn Huskies baseball alums have appeared in a major league game.
And it appears that only one has a real chance of getting to the playoffs.
With the MLB season now in its final week, let's take a look at the UConn connections in the big leagues, and their current situations.
Ben Casparius
A 27-year-old native of Westport, Conn., he was a fifth-round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2021 MLB Draft. A three-year veteran of the Dodgers who has helped them win the World Series in each of the last two campaigns, Casparius has gone 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA in five outings this year.
The Dodgers are headed back to the playoffs, but Casparius won't be with them. He's on the 60-day injured list and hasn't appeared in a game since April 12. He'd still get a ring if they won again though.
Kyler Fedko
An outfielder who was a 12th-round pick of the Minnesota Twins in 2021, Fedko has racked up 16 at-bats for Minnesota this year. He did not get a hit, but did score a run and registered an RBI.
The Twins are 73-84 and have been eliminated from playoff contention.
Anthony Kay
A key member of the Chicago White Sox this season, Kay has appeared in 31 games. After spending the last two years in Japan, the lefty has gone 9-9 with a 4.41 ERA, and he's made 29 starts.
A first-round pick of the New York Mets in 2016, Kay is closing in on a playoff berth with the White Sox. Their playoff odds are 97.0 entering play on Tuesday.

A right-handed pitcher who was taken in the ninth round of the 2022 Draft, Peterson has appeared in one game this season for the Cleveland Guardians. He struck out three in two innings. The Guardians are likely headed to the playoffs as well, but Peterson is in the minor leagues.
He is on the 40-man roster though, which gives him a leg up as the team builds its 2027 roster again.
PJ Poulin
An 11th-round pick of the Colorado Rockies in 2018, Poulin appeared in 35 games for the Washington Nationals this season. He pitched well, going 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA in a hybrid role (11 starts). Unfortunately, the Nationals are out of the playoff mix and he's on the 60-day injured list.
Andrew Sears
A 10th-round pick of the Detroit Tigers in 2023, the left-handed hurler has appeared in five games for Detroit this season, going 0-1 with a 5.19 ERA. Detroit is 74-83 and has been eliminated from playoff contention.
George Springer
The most decorated current Husky in the pros, Springer is a four-time All-Star, a three-time Slugger and a World Series MVP (2017). He helped the Toronto Blue Jays get to the World Series in 2025, but it looks like he won't get the chance again this year. The Jays have their playoff odds at 1.1 percent.
Springer has hit .251 with 15 homers this season, also popping 54 RBIs.
He's a free agent in 2027.
