A lot of the attention is on the American players - and Gabby Williams - but don't ignore the work of Dorka Juhasz.
The Team USA women's basketball team defeated France on Sunday afternoon in the gold medal game of the 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup in Berlin, Germany. For the Americans, it was their 12th World Cup gold medal in the events history.
The game showcased four former UConn Huskies alums, including Team USA stars Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier and Paige Bueckers, as well French star Gabby Williams.
Stewart and Williams were named to the event's "All-Star Five," and Stewart took home MVP honors for the second time, but there's another former UConn alum that deserves recognition as well.
And that's Dorka Juhasz, who represented Hungary at the tournament. She finished third in the tournament with 10.4 rebounds per game, establishing herself as a solid international player.
About Juhasz at UConn
A five-year collegiate standout at Ohio State and UConn, Juhasz spent the final two years of her career in Storrs. In those two years, she appeared in 61 games, starting 44 of them. She averaged 14.2 ppg in her senior year while also pulling down 9.9 rebounds a night and blocking 1.4 shots.
The Huskies did not win a national title in either of her two years: They lost to South Carolina in the national championship game in 2021-22 (64-49) and lost in the Sweet 16 the following year against her former team. It should be noted that Bueckers was out for the entirety of that season.
About Juhasz in the WNBA
Drafted in the second round (Pick No. 16) of the 2023 WNBA Draft, she has spent all three years with the Minnesota Lynx, alongside Collier. For her career, she's averaging 5.1 ppg and 4.7 rebounds. She's played in just 17 games this season for Minnesota, who is 31-9 right now through 40 games.

The Huskies men's program got its full Big East schedule on Monday morning, and they will open up league play on Dec. 23 at home against Georgetown.
The women's schedule has not been released yet, but the 2025-26 schedule was announced eight days after the men's schedule. That means the women's schedule could be released early next week.
UConn went 38-1 last season, only losing in the Final Four against South Carolina. However, this is a different team. Azzi Fudd is no longer here after being taken No. 1 in the WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings. The team will generally be focused around its post presence of Sarah Strong and Blanca Quinones.
