The University of Connecticut football team is just under two months away from opening its season on Sept. 5 against Lafayette. Coming off consecutive nine-win seasons, the Huskies have several questions to answer, including how Jason Candle will perform as head coach in relief of Jim Mora, who has moved onto Colorado State.

Also, how will the Huskies handle not having quarterback Joe Fagnano and All-American wide receiver Skyler Bell, both of whom are gone to graduation?

If UConn is going to be successful again, they'll need a new crop of players to step up and perform, including several that come to Storrs via the transfer portal.

We've focused a lot of on the depth at the running back position, but there is a transfer receiver that could be an exciting for fans to watch as well:

Ky Wilson, who comes to Storrs via Youngstown State.

An electric playmaker, he'll come to the Huskies with one year of eligibility remaining. He spent two years at Slippery Rock and one year at Youngstown State, where he had 64 catches for 652 yards and six touchdowns. He also added 31 kickoff returns and a touchdown, as well as 19 rushes for 101 yards and a score.

In 2024, played in 14 games, starting 12…recorded 1,524 all-purpose yards…had 32 kickoff returns for 842 yards and a touchdown…caught 57 passes for 637 yards and four touchdowns…also had 11 rushes for 34 yards and TD…helped SRU reach the Division II semifinals

At 5-foot-9, he's undersized, so he won't be a physical, beat the jam at the line of scrimmage option in the red zone, but he certainly can be a playmaker.

Can the Huskies get him the ball in space? Can they utilize him in motion to get him shifting into different spots to get open? Could we see him in the slot? How about on gadget run plays?

He feels like a Swiss Army knife that the offensive staff will want to find ways to get the ball.

Also, he's been a winner before, which counts for something as Candle tries to essentially rebuild the program after Mora's departure.

He was injured in spring ball, but he's recently posted videos showing him progressing, and things certainly look good on the health front.

The Los Angeles Dodgers reached into Connecticut on Sunday, selecting left-handed pitcher Charlie West, a junior, in the seventh round of the 2026 MLB Draft.

West led the Big East in the 2026 season with 111 strikeouts and earned first-team All-Big East recognition. He turned in eight quality starts among his 16 starts and finished the season with a 6-6 record and 4.12 ERA spread over 87 1/3 innings.

He struck out a season-high 14 batters against Butler over 6 2/3 shutout innings in a 5-4 loss on April 10. He gave up three hits and departed with a 4-0 lead, but Butler responded with two runs in the eighth and three in the ninth to win.
