Huskies leader Solo Ball is set to miss the entirety of the 2026-27 season.
As it was reported weeks ago, University of Connecticut men's basketball standout Solo Ball is set to miss the entirety of the 2026-27 campaign after undergoing wrist surgery. Head coach Dan Hurley says he will be back in 2027-28.
Speaking with the media on Tuesday, Ball revealed that he ruptured two ligaments in his wrist, per Sam Calhoun.
The Huskies advanced all the way to the national championship game, falling against Michigan, which is an incredibly impressive feat considering that Ball was obviously heavily compromised.
Ball, who just finished his junior year at UConn, averaged 12.8 ppg. He played in all 39 games for the Huskies, also pulling down three rebounds and dishing out more than one assist per game. His shooting percentages slumped this season, with the left wrist clearly a factor. He was just 30 percent from three-point range after leading the Big East in the same category (41.4 percent) as a sophomore. He helped UConn win the national title as a freshman in 2023-24.
Ball will now look to come back as a redshirt senior and help the Huskies play for another national championship - while also improving his own personal NBA Draft stock.
Losses mount for Huskies
In the era of the transfer portal and NIL, it's not uncommon to see programs take on big losses each offseason. Alex Karaban and Tarris Reed Jr. are set to graduate, while Eric Reibe and Jaylin Stewart are both transferring.
Without Ball, UConn will have to get major contributions from returners Silas Demary Jr. and Braylon Mullin, and then they'll have to hope for positive returns from transfers like Oskar Giltay and Nils Machowski. Machowski just committed on Tuesday and looks like a direct replacement for Ball.

A 6'3 rising senior from Berlin, Germany, he averaged 17.2 ppg this past season for the Wofford Terriers while also securing 5.7 rebounds and dishing out 2.6 assists. He shot 38.2 percent from three-point range.
He played in 32 games after starting his career at Central Florida. In those two years, he averaged only 2.9 ppg.

Despite not getting drafted over the weekend, now-former UConn quarterback Joe Fagnano secured an NFL opportunity by accepting an invitation to Baltimore Ravens rookie mini-camp.
Well, it turns out that Fagnano is going to get more than an opportunity, with Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reporting that Fagnano has agreed to a three-year deal with Baltimore. While it's unclear exactly how much money the deal is worth at this time, it's clear that Fagnano will get the opportunity to back up and learn behind former MVP Lamar Jackson.
