Top 25: Geno Auriemma Reaches Milestone: Men Move Up cover image

The UConn women and men are sitting in favorable poll positions entering the home stretch of the regular season.

UConn remained at No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25 women’s basketball poll, released Monday, and it marked yet another milestone for head coach Geno Auriemma.

The Huskies’ longtime head coach, who has led the program to 12 national titles, tied former Ohio State (1981-85) and Stanford (1985-2024) coach Tara VanDerveer for most appearances in the poll.

UConn now has appeared in the poll 654 times over Auriemma’s 41 years at the university. His team has been ranked for 619 weeks in a row, which goes back to the 1993-94 preseason poll.

Monday’s poll marked the 900th over the 50 years of the rankings.

UConn (27-0, 16-0 Big East) again was a unanimous selection at No. 1, garnering all 31 first-place votes. The Huskies are the only undefeated team in Division I.

Men rise in poll

As for the men, head coach Dan Hurley’s group moved up one spot to No. 5 as the top five reshuffled.

Previous No. 1 Arizona, with its first two losses of the season last week, fell to No. 4. Michigan moved up a spot to No. 1 for the first time this season. Houston and Duke both rose one place to Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.

Iowa State fell to No. 6, switching places with UConn.

The only other Big East team in the Top 25, St. John’s, remained in its spot at No. 17.

The Huskies men (24-2, 14-1) have five games remaining on the regular season. This week, they will host Creighton on Wednesday and travel to Villanova on Saturday.

Villanova (20-5, 11-3) is in third place in the Big East, two games behind both UConn and St. John’s.
