NaVorro Bowman Jr. wrapped up his visit with Dan Hurley's squad over the weekend.
Over the weekend, while most University of Connecticut fans were basking in the glow of the football team's season-opening romp against LaFayette, the UConn men's basketball team was wrapping up a visit with highly-decorated recruit NaVorro Bowman Jr.
Bowman is a five-star guard (6-foot-3) in the Class of 2027. He's ranked as the No. 12 player in the class by ESPN's recruiting service. The California native is the son of former San Francisco 49ers star linebacker NaVorro Bowman Sr.
Bowman won a gold medal with the 2026 FIBA U17 team at the World Cup. In seven games, he scored 11.9 ppg while dishing out 3.6 assists and pulling down 2.7 rebounds.
He's also scheduled to visit Illinois, Texas and Arizona this fall. Arizona and Illinois made the Final Four a season ago, the same as UConn.
About NaVorro Bowman Sr.
Now 38 years old, Bowman was a third-round pick of the 49ers in the 2010 NFL Draft out of Penn State. A seven-year veteran of the 49ers and Oakland Raiders, he was a three-time Pro Bowler and a four-time First-Team All-Pro. A linebacker, he had 14.0 career sacks, five interceptions and six fumble recoveries. He played in the playoffs each year from 2011-13.
How Bowman Jr. could fit with the Huskies
In the era of the transfer portal, leaving early for the NBA Draft, and fifth-year eligibility, it's difficult to project how freshmen may fit in, but someone as highly-touted as Bowman would clearly have the ability to contribute right away.
Silas Demary Jr. and Solo Ball can both return to the backcourt next year if they want to, but it's certainly possible that Demary heads to the NBA following this season. Braylon Mullins, another backcourt standout, is also expected to declare for the NBA Draft at the conclusion of this campaign.

UConn alum Breanna Stewart wasn’t about to let Team USA play another squeaker in FIBA Women’s World Cup play.
After Team USA pulled out a three-point win over Italy on Sunday, the Americans showed their dominance with a 105-64 win over Czechia in Berlin.
And Stewart, a UConn alum who is one of the most decorated U.S. players in international competition, led the way with 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
It was the 33rd win in a row in World Cup play for the United States, which hasn’t dropped a game in the tournament since a loss to Russia in the 2006 semifinals.
