A big 'good luck' is in order for University of Connecticut alum Christian Haynes, who is attempting to win the Super Bowl on Sunday night as a member of the Seattle Seahawks.
The offensive lineman actually spent six years around the Huskies program, appearing in games in five of those seasons.
He made two appearances in 2018 and then 12 more in 2019. The Huskies missed the COVID 2020 season, and then Haynes played in 12 games each year from 2021-2023.
Haynes played for each of Randy Edsal, Lou Spanos and Jim Mora while in Storrs, winning a career-high six games in the 2022 campaign.
He was a third-round pick of the Seahawks in the 2024 NFL Draft. He played in 16 games as a rookie and eight in this season, helping the Seahawks in the NFC West and solidify the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.
The UConn football program put out a video of players picking who they thought would win the Super Bowl, and several players picked Seattle in support of Haynes.
Seattle won 10 games in 2024 but missed the playoffs. After that, the team re-tooled its roster, trading away quarterback Geno Smith and signing Sam Darnold. They also dealt star wide receiver DK Metcalf and let Tyler Lockett go in free agency, building instead around Jaxon Smith-Njigba and a competent run game. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb was let go in favor of Klint Kubiak, who is now expected to become head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.
The game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET and will air on NBC and Peacock. Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth will have the call.
