Who is better? The 2024-2025 bunch or the 2025-2026 crew?

The University of Connecticut women's basketball team went 37-3 and won the national championship in 2024-25, making them one of the best teams in program history.

On top of that, point guard Paige Bueckers was named as the National Player of the Year and was the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft (Dallas Wings).

That said, this year's version of the Huskies is doing all it can give that group a run for its money. UConn is 22-0 entering Sunday's tilt with No. 15 Tennessee and looks like the national championship favorites once again. Connecticut has won 21 of its 22 games by double-figures. If they are able to get past Tennessee, there's a very real chance they end the regular season unbeaten.

So which team is better? Well, that's one for sports talk radio to ruminate over, but Bueckers did have a funny answer when asked about it before this weekend's "Unrivaled" contest, saying she was talking to former teammate Kaitlyn Chen and wondered "do they even miss us?"

About these Huskies

--Entering play on Saturday, the Huskies are shooting 52.7 percent as a team, tops in the nation.

--They are shooting 60.4 percent from two-point range, tops in the nation, and 39.3 percent from three-point range, second in the country.

--They are first in the country in assists per game at 24.4, third in steals (16.0) and second in points (90.2).

--Both Sarah Strong and KK Arnold were just named as finalists for the Defensive Player of the Year award that comes out in April. Strong is also a favorite for the National Player of the Year honors.

Need to know

Sunday's contest against Tennessee is set for noon ET. The Volunteers are one of the most storied programs in the history of the women's college game. They have won eight national championships, most recently in 2008.

Also on campus

--Huskies football alums Joe Fagnano and Skyler Bell recently participated in the East-West Shrine Game, with Fagnano receiving high marks for his performance. Both players are possible NFL draft choices, with Bell looking like a sure selection at wide receiver. He was named an All-American in 2025.

--The UConn men's basketball team, ranked No. 2, will take on Creighton on Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET. The program also announced that former big man Hasheem Thabeet will be inducted into the Huskies of Honor on Feb. 14. He was a two-time Defensive Player of the Year.
