Congratulations are in order for University of Connecticut women's basketball alum Paige Bueckers, who was one of 18 players named to the training camp roster for the USA women's basketball national team on Monday. The training will take place from Dec. 12-14 in Durham, N.C.
This team training is one of the earliest chances for Bueckers to make her case for the 2028 Olympics, which will be held in Los Angeles. It will be the first Summer Olympics held on American soil since 1996. The Americans have won the gold medal in women's basketball at each Olympics since then. They have not lost a single Olympic game since 1992.
The list features several prominent names from the WNBA ranks, as well as some players from the collegiate game.

She was the No. 1 overall pick by the Dallas Wings in the 2025 WNBA Draft and captured the league's Rookie of the Year Award.
Bueckers averaged 19.2 ppg with the Wings in her first season (36 games). She also averaged 5.4 assists per game. Her final year at UConn saw her average 19.9 ppg. She was the National Player of the Year and the Huskies won the national championship.
Given her resume, her chances would seem pretty good, but it should be noted that this preliminary list does not include standouts like Breanna Stewart, A'ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier, Jewell Loyd or Sabrina Ionescu, who all will have the inside track at a roster spot as well.
