Boston College, who had interested in Gerry McNamara before he bolted for Syracuse, has reportedly made an offer to one of Dan Hurley's top lieutenants.

The University of Connecticut men's basketball team is busy preparing for its Sweet 16 contest on Friday night (9:45 p.m. ET) against Michigan State.

They'll hope the season extends beyond that as they work to contend for the program's third national championship in four seasons.

But regardless when - and how - the campaign ends, there's a chance for the program to look much different in 2026-27. Of course, the Huskies will lose standouts like Alex Karaban and Tarris Reed Jr. to graduation, but they could also lose one of their key pieces on the bench.

According to a report from BC Eagle Action's Kevin J. Stone, Boston College has offered its head coaching position to UConn assistant Luke Murray.

Yet another coaching search update for BC MBB:

Luke Murray was in fact offered a deal by BC. I do not know if Larranaga was.

Feels like it’s now Murray’s job if he wants it. We could all just be waiting on the UConn season to wrap up at this point.

Boston College had reportedly interviewed Gerry McNamara as well, but he accepted the head coaching job at Syracuse.

About the Boston College job

All jobs come down to a handful of things: How much can you win? How much investment is there from the athletic department in winning? How much money are you being paid? How important is the location? What does the job mean for your family life? Those questions are certainly prevalent here for Murray.

Boston College has been a subpar program for well over a decade: BC hasn't made the NCAA Tournament since 2008-09 and hasn't won a game in the tournament since 2006-07. The Eagles have one just winning season in the last seven.

Couple that with the fact that they play in the challenging Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and it's hard to imagine things getting a whole lot better any time soon, but perhaps Murray is the guy to change the culture.

About Murray

The following information on Murray comes from a recent profile that our own Jami Leabow did on his job candidacy at various schools.

"Murray, the son of actor Bill Murray, has been on Hurley’s staff since the 2021-22 season but has been with the head coach longer than that.

UConn is the ninth stop in his basketball career, which has taken him from his first job as director of operations at Quinnipiac in the 2007-08 season to Post to Arizona to Wagner to Towson to Rhode Island to Xavier to Louisville and finally to UConn.

He served as an assistant coach to Hurley at Wagner (2010-11) and Rhode Island (2013-15) before joining him with the Huskies.

Murray has taken a lead role as a recruiter and mentor for the post players."
