The University of Connecticut softball team just saw its season end in the College Station regional of the NCAA Tournament, but despite that, it was an incredible year for the program, which earned its first NCAA Tournament win since 2001 on Saturday night.

But it's not just the softball program: This academic year has been a banner year of successes for the athletic department in Storrs. No, not every team has won a national championship, but many programs have hit significant checkpoints in their growth and many have played deep into their postseasons.

While champions remain the goal, there's something to be said for prolonged success and notable accomplishments.

Let's dive in:

The Huskies won nine games (9-4) for the second consecutive season under former head coach Jim Mora, earning a spot in the Fenway Bowl, where they lost to Army.

Despite that loss, it was a record-setting year offensively for the Huskies that included a win over rival Boston College (38-23) and a thrilling win over Duke (37-34).

Wide receiver Skyler Bell was named the first-ever AP All-American in program history and was eventually drafted in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills.

The program will look to keep the momentum in 2026 under new head coach Jason Candle, even as Bell and quarterback Joe Fagnano depart.

The Huskies went 12-5-4 on the campaign, earning a return trip to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018. It was the 37th NCAA Tournament berth in the program's storied history. The Huskies lost to Maryland in the Round of 16.

Three UConn players (Ayoub Lajhar, Austin Brummett and Kyle Durham) were selected in the MLS SuperDraft and six players were placed on All-Big East teams.

The Huskies went 12-9 overall but 6-1 inside Big East play, earning an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament. They beat No. 7 Wake Forest before falling 1-0 to No. 4 Harvard.

A perennial power under head coach Dan Hurley, the Huskies delivered another fantastic season, going 34-6 in total. The Huskies advanced to the national championship game where they fell against Michigan.

It was the third national title game appearance in four years for UConn.

The Huskies developed one of the best freshman in the nation in Braylon Mullins and delivered one of the best moments of the entire season in their Elite 8 win against Duke.

Tarris Reed Jr. and Alex Karaban are headed for NBA Draft selections in June while alums like Stephon Castle (San Antonio Spurs) continue to play deep into the NBA Playoffs.

Geno Auriemma's team went undefeated in the regular season and swept through the Big East Tournament before falling against South Carolina in the Final Four. While a disappointing end, the Huskies delivered one of the greatest seasons in college basketball history.

Azzi Fudd earned the No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft, marking two straight years the Huskies have had that distinction (Paige Bueckers) and Sarah Strong was named the nation's top player after averaging 18.6 ppg. It could have been more if she hadn't been taken out early of so many blowouts.

The Huskies will enter 2026-27 as one of the favorites to win the national title again, a staple of Auriemma's tenure as head coach.

The Huskies went 20-13-5 on the season, earning an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament, where they were beaten by Michigan State in the regional.

On the alumni front? Buffalo Sabres standout Tage Thompson helped lead Team USA to a gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics, putting the Huskies in the news even more.

The Huskies went 28-9-2 on the season as goalie Tia Chan was named the Women's Hockey Goalie of the Year and a first-team All-American.

The Huskies earned a double-overtime win over No. 1 Boston University in the Hockey East title game before losing to No. 3 Penn State in the NCAA Tournament.

However, they did earn a win over Princeton, marking another postseason success for the program.

The Huskies are 32-24 on the season and 15-6 in league play. They'll open up the Big East Tournament on Wednesday against Xavier. Head coach Jim Penders earned his 800th career win this season and the Huskies could have players taken in July's MLB Draft.
