Murray left for Boston College this offseason, putting an opening on the bench next to Dan Hurley.

According to new reports, the University of Connecticut men's basketball team has a new assistant coach who will replace Luke Murray on the bench.

Murray, who had been with head coach Dan Hurley at multiple stops, left to become the head coach at Boston College this offseason.

Former Butler coach Mike Pegues is reportedly filling that spot.

About Pegues

As noted by his now-former Butler biography, Pegues spent four years with the Bulldogs, working in all aspects of the program but specializing in post player development, recruiting and scouting. He helped Butler get to the NIT and the Crown Tournament during his tenure.

Beyond Butler, he has also coached at Louisville (2018-22), Xavier (2012-18), Delaware (2010-12) and VCU (2009-10). He once served as the interim head coach at Louisville.

A former player at Delaware, he played professionally in Europe, South America, New Zealand, and in the CBA.

About the now-departed Murray

Murray has more than a dozen years of coaching under his belt at various stops around the country, so he certainly has an idea of how to build and maintain programs. He'll need to draw on those experience to help turn around the Eagles, who went 11-20 last season. Boston College hasn't been to the NCAA Tournament since 2009.

Murray was with UConn from 2021-26, helping the Huskies win two national championships, but before then he coached at Louisville (2018-21), Xavier (2015-18), Rhode Island (2013-15), Towson (2011-13), Wagner (2010-11), Arizona (2009-10), Post (2008-09) and Quinnipiac (2007-08).

Murray coached with Huskies head coach Dan Hurley at both Wagner and Rhode Island, in addition to Connecticut. Ironically, he had crossover with Pegues at both Louisville and Xavier.

About the upcoming men's basketball season

After getting to the national championship game this past season, the Huskies have assembled maybe the most difficult non-conference schedule in college basketball history. They will play Duke, Kansas, Michigan, Arizona, Illinois, Virginia and Ohio State.

In Michigan, Arizona and Illinois, UConn is playing each of the other three Final Four teams from this past season.
