It appears that under new head coach Jason Candle, the University of Connecticut football program will have to prove everybody wrong.

After back-to-back nine-win seasons under former head coach Jim Mora, the Huskies will have to show they can win without him, and without record-setting quarterback Joe Fagnano, and without All-American wide receiver Skyler Bell, who was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the NFL Draft.

The Huskies' schedule is difficult, as they'll see multiple Atlantic Coast Conference foes (Syracuse, North Carolina), a Big Ten foe (Maryland) and a College Football Playoff participant from 2025 (James Madison), and the talent loss is real.

The College Football '27 video game doesn't think much of the Huskies at the quarterback position, saying that the Huskies have five running backs who rate higher than the team's top quarterback option.

And now Yahoo! Sports is taking some pseudo-shots at the program as well.

Well, apparently, Yahoo! Sports has gotten into the business of fantasy football for college football. That's right, fantasy football is no longer restricted to just the NFL, and the site put out its Top 300 players for the upcoming season on Monday.

However, not one single UConn player appeared on the list. Not one. Yahoo! thinks there isn't one single Huskies player in the Top 300 of the entire sport.

Is that ultra damning? Not necessarily. We know that UConn isn't among the "big boys" of college football, but Fagnano and Bell would have been among the Top 300 a year ago.

This year, the Huskies don't have one player that fits that criteria. And it doesn't mean that the team can't be good, but it does mean that the group has to collectively prove people wrong, at every skill position spot on the field.

The Los Angeles Dodgers reached into Connecticut on Sunday, selecting left-handed pitcher Charlie West, a junior, in the seventh round of the 2026 MLB Draft.

West led the Big East in the 2026 season with 111 strikeouts and earned first-team All-Big East recognition. He turned in eight quality starts among his 16 starts and finished the season with a 6-6 record and 4.12 ERA spread over 87 1/3 innings.

He struck out a season-high 14 batters against Butler over 6 2/3 shutout innings in a 5-4 loss on April 10. He gave up three hits and departed with a 4-0 lead, but Butler responded with two runs in the eighth and three in the ninth to win.
