The Huskies will open up the exhibition season on Tuesday night against Syracuse, despite a fake report on the internet.

The internet was set ablaze on Thursday night by a fake report that the UConn Huskies men's basketball team had lost an exhibition matchup to Charlotte.

A parody account, believed by many to be Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, broke the "news" that UConn had lost to Charlotte 68-61. Had that been real, of course, it would have been shocking. Charlotte went just 17-17 in the American Athletic Conference last season and was just 9-9 in its own league. UConn got to the national title game for the third time in four years, losing to Michigan.

While the fake report sent UConn fans scrambling, just remember, nothing that happens in the exhibition season matters all that much from a results standpoint. It's all about the process, health, building team chemistry and about seeing improvement across the roster.

To that point, UConn opens up the exhibition season on Tuesday night against Syracuse at Mohegan Sun Arena. They'll also take on Michigan State and Purdue in the exhibition season. And they will have real questions to answer in those contests.

Namely: How do they play without big man Tarris Reed Jr.? Is Na'jai Hines ready to take the step to fill his shoes? And how about Alex Karaban? Both from a scoring perspective and a leadership perspective.

And with Solo Ball expected to miss the entire season with injury, what is the depth in the backcourt beyond Silas Demary Jr. and Braylon Mullins?

We certainly expect UConn to get answers to those questions as the season goes on, but there is some discomfort in the unknown. But Dan Hurley is a coach who loves the process of building, and this team will certainly be a process to build back into a championship contender.

Up next for the Huskies

UConn will continue its exhibition season on Tuesday night (7 p.m. ET) when it takes on Syracuse at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The Orange are coming off a season in which they went 15-17 and missed the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight year.

They also moved on from previous head coach Adrian Autry and hired former star player Gerry McNamara, who UConn fans will remember well from when Syracuse was in the Big East.

The two women's programs will also play in this exhibition showcase, but that game will be Monday at 6:30 p.m. ET. UConn eliminated Syracuse in the NCAA Tournament last year, beating them in the Round of 32.
