One of the nation’s top recruits in the Class of 2027 has narrowed his schools of interest, with UConn included on his list.

But it’s too early for men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley to count on Cayden Daughtry, a 6-foot point guard from Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., choosing the Huskies.

Daughtry is ranked on the 247Sports composite as a five-star prospect, the No. 4 point guard and the No. 10 overall player in the nation. And with those credentials, he’s got several schools interested in him.

He’s interested in many of them, too. UConn is one of 14 schools in the group of candidates that he announced Monday on social media.

He’s considering a diverse collection of schools, dominated by Southeastern Conference programs Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Florida and Vanderbilt. Three Atlantic Coast Conference schools earned a spot -- Florida State, Miami and Louisville – and Big Ten teams Iowa, Michigan and Southern California joined them.

The other two teams?

A pair of UConn’s Big East rivals, Villanova and Providence.

Before Daughtry ever hit high school, he attended a camp at Florida State in June 2023. A few days later, he received an offer from the Seminoles, his first of 32 listed by 247Sports.

He is repaying that loyalty. Florida State will get an early visit, with Daughtry scheduled to visit Friday. He also has a visit scheduled for early September at Iowa.

Daughtry was the star of the 2026 Peach Jam – the EYBL championship – last month, winning MVP honors. He led his team, the Florida Rebels, to the tournament title and topped the field with an average of 32.3 points per game. He finished third in assists with 6.1.

He shot 58.6% from the field and 48.8% from 3-point range.

Daughtry's point total eclipsed that of the No. 2 Peach Jam scorer, Beckham Black (Southeastern Prep, Orlando, Fla.), who averaged 24.2 points per game. Black is the No. 1 point guard and No. 2 overall in the nation, per the 247Sports composite.

In the challenging EYBL regular season, Daughtry averaged 25.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game. He shot 54.9% overall, 33.8% from long distance.

The Huskies don’t have any commitments yet in the 2027 class, but that is understandable at this stage of the recruiting process.

According to 247Sports, UConn has made offers to two other point guards – five-star Nasir Anderson (Prolific Prep, Fort Lauderdale) and four-star Micah Gordon (SPIRE Academy, Geneva, Ohio).

The Huskies also have offers out to five-star shooting guard Jordan Page (IMG Academy, Bradenton, Fla.) and to a trio of combo guards: five-star NaVorro Bowman Jr., and four-stars King Gibson (SPIRE Academy) and Chase Lumpkin (McEachern, Powder Springs, Ga.)
